2008 GL 320 CDI
Battery Again ?

I've been trying to figure out whether to replace my battery in my 2008 320 CDI. Car is new to me and initially I thought it might have the original battery. While I was rooting around in there I saw that the carpeting on the terminal side of the battery had been cut. As I understand it the only reason to cut that carpeting is to get the original battery out in order to replace it. Is this correct ? Does anyone know what the original battery part# was for the 2008 320 CDI. Is there any other way to find out how old the battery is ? Once again thanks for all the help as I try to get this complex beast sorted, Bill

The carpet can be cut to disconnect the battery during routine service.

If you don't have symptoms leave the battery alone.

The usual reason to cut the carpet there is to replace the battery. It would be VERY unusual to find a 2008 GL320 with a functioning original battery (7 yrs). The only way to check the current battery model and age is to closely examine the top of it, Run the passenger seat all the way forward, open the right rear door, fold back the cut carpet, and use a flashlight and mirror to check for dates and markings on the battery top.
As to what the OEM part number is - phone the dealer's parts dept nearest you and ask them.
