Brake upgrade option for GL (W164)
We received inquiries regarding to make light weight two piece rotors available similar to what we did for ML63.
Three size of front rotors:
However due to the recurring brake issues, MB must provide bigger rotors on GL/ML e.g. for W166 the rotor is 375x36mm (estd 39 lbs), ML63 is 390x36 (36 lbs)
Bigger is usually better but not necessary true unless the rotor metallurgy is improved. In fact we have improved rotor metallurgy so that we can build our two piece rotors with substantial weight saving, yet can outperform OE's bulky and heavy rotors with amazing durability like we did for C63/E63, ML63 and other models.

350x32mm (29.5 lbs)
375x32mm (36 lbs) - This is an extremely heavy piece.
I believe most GL are equipped w/350mm or 375mm (late models) and very few 330mm.350x32mm (29.5 lbs)

How about the rear?
OE rear rotor is 330x22mm, so with big drum brake the rotor dia is too small to make two piece rotors, so we plan to offer a rear BBK 360x26mm rear two piece like we offer for ML63 with MB rear 4 pot calipers or if you can source rear ML63 OE floating calipers.
The front can be GL's 375mm or 390mm rotors like for ML63. Calipers can be MB's or RB 6 pot calipers.

Agree.
Many big wheels upgrade available and done, but you see only factory small brake behind those large wheels which makes the set up (wheel & brake) highly in-proportional and looks "weak".
Racingbrake has BBK to fill up your big wheels* at very affordable prices.
* In development is a "Huge" brake kit for GL/ML with 432mm front and 410mm rear rotors (requires 21" wheels).
