Installing an OEM Rear View Camera - GL450

Hi Guys,

Just ordered an OEM camera for the 08 GL450. A couple of questions:

1. does anyone know where a write up or video is for installing this?

2. does anyone know whether this is simply plug n play in that the wire harness already exists in the lift gate or will I have to procure and run the wire all the way back to the command head unit?

3. Will I have to enter the engineering menu of the command head unit and change any options; or will it automatically detect and do the configurations for me?

My VIN is: 4JGBF71E08A317174

Thanks in advance!

Hi Guys, is there a MB Tech out there that could potentially answer mine and chateau's questions? Thanks in advance!

I believe you will need one of these or send your headunit off to make it work.

thanks for the response. does anyone have other ideas?? i don't think that the dealer adds external aftermarket components to make it work. What does it mean to "send it out?" I prefer to make it work similar to the way the dealer makes it work.

How much does your dealership want for the install?

There is no way to install camera, head unit need to be connected to additional module (aftermarket) which is really price, I was thinking to do the same but I think for this much $$$ money it's not worth it.
Everything depends on you.

I had my kit done back in UK from this guys, a few hours job by myself

https://www.commandonline.co.uk/X164...V-tuner-..html

Works OK, and it's all MB. You might need to get someone to code your command unit. You can talk to those folk at Command UK, quite friendly and knowledgeable for both EU and US markets.

Rear Camera install

Could a rear camera be installed on the bottom of the bumper on my 2007 GL450 making it much easier to run the cable to the head unit?

There is a precut opening on the trunk lid tailgate hatch handle that is perfect to install this rear view camera.
I used Bestbuy Geek squad to install the camera and run the wires to a separate aftermarket LCD screen that is mounted on the dashboard.
camera & LCD screen purchased at Amazon. Bestbuy labor cost about $200.

Now just one GL450 with EORP.
Or if you are lucky and have P1 or P2 with the defeated (in US) TV option, we just buy it from Mercedes because the wiring is already there, and code it into the command unit using MBStar developer mode…

Rücksichtkamera eingebaut = ja

Believe it or not watching TV in traffic is a thing in Japan.
