Faulty Reverse Camera Modulator 2008 GL 450
Reverse Camera started to intermittently fail about a year ago, then - just black. No static, just a black screen in reverse. Stealer diagnosed as a faulty Reverse Camera Modulator and wants $368 for part/labor. I believe I found the part number: 164 543 00 62 and there are several pretty cheap on on eBay.
Couple questions:
- The eBay listings say the part is for an S Class, another is for C Class, and other models. When looking at the pictures, the part number is the same. Should any of these work in the 08 GL?
- Is this a general part swap or does it require the stealer to reprogram?
Trying to save a few bucks, they already charged me $125.00 just to diagnose this specific problem.
Thanks.

Wow, not a single reply? Fortunately, I'll answer for the benefit of all....
- The same part number from a different vehicle (C class in this case) WORKED FINE.
- It immediately worked, did not require reprogramming
Also, I had a very hard time locating the module in the 2008 GL. I found one parts diagram and it showed rear quarter panel on drivers side, cargo area. It was NOT there. I took all moldings off the tailgate and rear panel and and tracing the wire, it was located under the spare tire compartment. You simply remove the bottom panel near the latch a few fasteners by the spare tire (take spare tire out) and boom, its right there. Had I known, total time to replace would have been 10 minutes. Dealer quoted 1.25 hours of labor. God I hate them, nothing but thieves! I paid $60 for used part, saved $308.
