Advice on Hi mileage GL

Hi all looking at a 2010 Bluetec gl with p2 package and 117k miles on it for around $21k. Non MB dealer. Carfax shows steady maintenance at dealer. Car is clean. Is this worth pursuing or too many potential headaches?

It's hit or miss with the diesel. The maintenance costs will be considerably higher than the gasser models but the mileage is better. If you tow a trailer fairly often, go for the diesel. If not, go for a 450 or 550. I would not a 350 after reading about all the high repair bills that seem to plague the diesel models.

No, they are cheap for a reason. I would only own a MB that I can purchase CPO or the ability to buy an ELW.

There are lots of potential headaches - airmatic struts, oil cooler, transfer case, turbo, def tank, and some other issues are common.

On the other hand, that is the depreciation cost on a new one for, what, maybe 18 months?

It makes sense only on the following conditions:
1. You really, really like the truck.
2. You drive lots of miles.
3. You have a really good, non-mercedes mechanic.

Land Rover Discovery series I
i recently had a sensor fail on my 07 320. Two respected indie MB shops could not find or fix. Dealer had it fixed with two hours labor. For electronic gremlins just bank on a dealer trip unless you can find an indie shop with the Star diagnostic machine.

2007 GL 450 (lease returned, like new, cried when we left it at the dealer), 2011 GL350 BlueTec
Concur with all advice given above. Have a 2011 (bought in 2010), but it's essentially the same. Just over 100k miles. Repairs galore. Thank god for ELWs. Couldn't have done it without that. Our service manager is encouraging us to give it up before the warranty goes even though so much has been replaced in the car. You'd think it's almost new. Now, the turbo is throwing codes and is in limp mode even after having been in the shop. Proceed with caution and be prepared to pay about $3k per year in repairs, more if the oil cooler hasn't already been replaced.
