200k miles on original plugs - yikes
Just did my plugs. They were the original NGK R1 plugs. Replaced them with Bosch but if I ever replace them again it will be with the NGK R1's. The original plugs look amazing after 200k miles. No signs of oil slipping past the rings and sticking to the tips of the plugs.
There was something strange though. Some of the plugs actually turned with very little resistance. You can see by the threads which plugs were loose and which were tight. Here are all.8 next to one of the new ones. You can see how much thicker the R1 electrode is compared to the new Bosch plug.

The GL was actually running really well so there were no signs that they needed to be changed. The GL probably could have easily gone another 50k miles but I did not want to take the chance of the plug coming apart and grenading the engine. As you can see in the picture, they look really great for an engine with that many miles and that many miles on the original plugs.
I think I can get another 200k+ on the original motor assuming something doesn't let go. The rings are not letting oil through and the car has plenty of power. So far, the 450 is the most reliable car I've ever owned and seems to be wearing the best too. The interior still looks amazing with very little wear showing. MB Tex is ultra durable.
