Power Steering pump and rack & pinion steering
My 07 GL450 is leaking power steering fluid. Took it to a regular mechanic and said it was coming from the pump, tank and fluid on the rack steering.
Took it to a Euro car repair and quoted over $4000 to replace all. Is this in the ball park for oem parts and 12 hours to do the job.
Anyone have this done?

first, I would definitely try to find out where the leak is coming from. When I took my gl to get aligned, the guy says that I should get my rack and pinion changed because it was leaking. It has fluid all over it. I knew there was no leaking from the rack and pinion but from the reservoir.
There is an o ring behind the reservoir and I would check that first because it is the cheapest. maybe a couple dollars. If you have changed your oil filter yourself, the o ring from the kit from the oil filter fits perfectly! no leaks and I have done it twice. If your pump is bad you will know it because you will hear it squealing and/or hard to turn your steering wheel.
The reservoir is fairly easy to change. it is only 3 bolts. the hard part is getting to them. You also have to remove the retaining clip behind the reservoir.
