Video in Motion (2014 GL450)
So I have seen the VIM kit on eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/261381543042?item=261381543042&viewitem=&vxp=mtr
I've also seen the directions to enter a secret menu to disable "Driver Distractions."
Obviously simply "enabling" VIM inside the software would be optimal over installing a wiring harness but I wanted to see if anyone here has gone through either of the processes. From what I can see the secret menu instructions is for vehicles in the '00's.
Thanks in advance for any help!

From another post - some have recommended this software solution - so you I have not tried it yet personally - I have used MidCity hardware solution which is another thing.

Any suggestions? It was easier for BMW and Audi using VagCom. and the tool was also easily accessible. I used to get from folks who had one nearby for a case of Beer.

1. Buy the cable hack from eBay and retrofit
2. Buy the DVD Disc from DVDinmotion or eBay with your specific VIN coded to it and it "unlocks" VIM. This is what want but I am wondering how I can do it myself as I want to do more than just the VIM. like rolling windows, light tweaks, volume offset etc. I know its possible with right tools but there seems to be lack of info on the internet on this subject (I know lack of info and internet in the same sentence! lol).

The 3rd and advised option is the MidCity hardware - both the MidCity and Bealrus solution require going into the dash..
The DVDInMotion software deal is causing several members some problems - like knocking nav off-line..

How does this one look? http://www.ebay.com/itm/MERCEDES-Video-in-Motion-TV-Free-GL-ML-E-C-B-A-CLA-CLS-G-SL-SLK-class-2011-2014-/261214932487?hash=item3cd19f8e07&vxp=mtr
couple of questions on the Aux Video, what is it exactly? How can I use it to play video? if thats no use can I use my Iphone to play video? basically anything other than DVD! lol. can I buy the media plus interface? will that be of any use?
Sorry for so many questions but its driving me nuts looking for answers. :-)
Also I had the infamous brake pad issue so left the car at the dealers and they gave me a ML for loaner. my curiosity, I went in to the "secret" menu and found split view had three different options where as my GL had only On/ Off. I enabled the split view and there was a icon in the home screen to enable split screen. when enabled, there were two screens super imposed. unfortunately didnt have a DVD to test it out but ML owners here might try that hack and see if they can play the video. my guess is they can but the home screen will be super imposed on top.
oh and there is a huge difference in ride quality compared to ML. WOW! I did not expect that at all. ML was very rough.

I recently enabled mine using www.bimmerguru.com 's software update. Pretty solid and easy to use. It took me only 5 minutes to install and the good thing is you can uninstall anytime if you want to remove.
Here's a video on an installation for a 2013 GL450 that has Comand NTG4.5 or 4.7.

I have the Mid City VIM. It works, although I was told by the installer that the GPS for the nav is disabled when the VIM is engaged. The nav continues to work via dead reckoning but gets increasingly inaccurate with miles and turns. Then there is the issue of warranty if something OE goes wrong and it's arguably related to the VIM or it's installation.
The bimmerguru set up seems much better and it's a bunch cheaper than the Mid City VIM. Also, I think that the GPS remains engaged with the bimmerguru setup.

I'm a dealer for MidCity and can help you guys out if you need one. I've used their products before and have the VIM in my own S550. I have access to just about any product out there and it's a great quality product and I've also came up with a sollution to add a front camera using the VIM and it works awesome!
So, if you get the MidCity VIM, I can have a custom harness built, get you a front camera, and it will turn on automatically below 3 mph.
