EZ Pass not reading
Hello,
I live in New England and use EZ Pass/Fast Lane for tolls. the last two times in my GL, the transponder was not detected and I received a notice in the mail. I sent the transponder in and they said there is nothing wrong with it. They mentioned that in some MB vehicles the transponder is not "visible" to the sensors because of the "special wind shield". has anyone experienced this? any solutions? is there a specific place on the wind shield I need to place the transponder? Thanks
George

Other's will have more experience, but I think it's due to the infra-red blocking (corrected) windshield. I think it needs to be very close to the rear view mirror for it to work.

Actually...
The windshield has infra-red blocking - so there are specific areas that are left clear of that material for mounting transponders.
In Owners manual under infra red reflecting windshield.. those 2 pages attached

The EZ pass was deemed functional by the EZ pass people when I sent it in. I am sure it is the position of the Transponder. I had it right under the rear view mirror which according to the manual is not an ideal position due to the IR blocking wind shield.

I have my EZ pass responder right underneath the camera lens on the windshield. The dealer told me I didnt have the IR windshield on GL350. Am I misled by the dealer?
I havent had any issues of the toll plazas not being able to read the transponder

I thought IR windshields are standard.

I checked yesterday and placed the car facing sunlight. I did not find the areas. The entire windshield seemed the same to me. Also since my EZ pass is working in an area where its not suppose to work, it leads me to assume that I do not have the IR glass. Maybe its standard on previous model years and not the MY2014 GL350? fabbrisd1 - your thoughts?

Yep! It happened a few months back and I got a nasty letter in the mail that I hadn't paid the toll. They had a picture of my license and everything but I have the ez-pass so wasn't sure why it didn't pick up the transponder. So I actually just had to go online and click something. There were instructions on how to do it and then I just paid the toll if it happened to be an error.
Twice a year I go to New England and a month ago when I went up there I got a note saying that I need to add more funds to my account even though I have an auto reload feature. I didn't do anything for a few days and it finally went through. So I've just had 2 issues but they are sort of random. When I returned from the trip nothing happened. I never thought about all of the sensors but have it right below all of those, under the rear view.

I changed the position of my transponder to where the manual says it needs to be. Haven't gone through a toll yet but will update when I do.

Interesting, I have mine mounted next to the mirror as suggested on both cars, out of chance, and they have been working. Good to know...
