Negotiate price before ordering or after?

Hey Guys,

I am in the market for a 2015 GL450 but couldn't find any of those that matches my desired options, so I decide to order one. The dealer told me for ordered vehicles, they can't guarantee the price before the vehicle actually arrives, is that true? If so, that means I have to give the deposit, wait couple of month, and when the vehicle eventually arrives, I start to negotiate the price with the dealer? That doesn't really make sense to me, what if the price is higher than the market?

I am new to the market so any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Whenever I've ordered a vehicle, including our GL, I negotiated the price at time of ordering.

Don't let the stealership yank your chain. As others have said, negotiate a price and in writing.

What a dealer gimmick!
Always negotiate first, sign contract, put down deposit, and wait patiently...

Very untrue. Tell hi, you will want a signed PO at the time of ordering for the total out the door price. If he will not provide it, find another dealer.

If a dealer can pull that clear lie on you, I would NOT buy a car from them. Imagine how sleazy the parts department will be if this kind of attitude exists within the sales rank.

Yes, that's just sleazy. Go to a different dealer, that one is just dishonest. Once your car arrives, you're sure as heck in no position to negotiate unless you're really willing to walk away. And after waiting for months for the car to arrive, not many people would be.

What a bunch of BULL*****...

with leasing it is possible, but money factor is probably 0.0023 or 22 these days with a GL

but the Sale price is definitely rock solid. Like all have said above, stay away from that stealership.

Are you in the market to make any other major purchases? If so I would like sell you whatever you need.

What if there's an incentive when the gl arrives?

Factory incentives are outside the negotiated price. Same deal as if there was currently an incentive but it ran out before the vehicle was delivered. With incentives it's whatever is in effect at time of delivery.

What about factory kick backs to dealers. Because when I purchased my 2013 s550 last year there wasn't any manufacture incentives but my dealer gave me $20k off. I'm just asking because the gl is hot right now but might not be in January.

You only got 20k off? Not something I'd share with folks!

Dealer dollars, as you noted, vary. Again, whatever is there when the car gets delivered.

Dood, seriously, negotiate harder next time.

For a car that was already last year's inventory and the previous model body? Hey, if you're enjoying the car and plan to keep it for 7+ years, I'm sure things will work out fine.

It's fine, maybe you could have pushed for 25% max, but you'd run the risk of someone else grabbing it

I bought the car in may of 2013, the 2014 wasn't due out until Oct 2013. My lease on my old gl was up. If my lease was up in oct, I definitely would've jumped on the 2014 because I heard it is awesome. My wife now wants a gl with the porcelain interior so I placed my order for Dec delivery. I haven't negotiated a price yet and didn't have to leave a deposit or anything. Due to the fact I have bought 6 benz in the past from them. I was just going to wait until the car arrives then negotiate the best deal I can get. I do wish I could've had the v8TT though in the 2014

One thing I learned is that if the Sales manager is smiling at you in the end, you got owned. If the sales manager is pissed off at you (like me), I know I got a good deal. So as a consumer, your job is to **** off the sales manager so much that the general manager needs to come in and finish the deal for you. Of course, you can play nice because it is your money but for me, my goal is to see reactions of sales manager and if they are close to telling you to **** off, then I know you are getting close. Of course you need to distinguish real and fake reactions, as fake reactions is the immediate reaction when you first start negotiating.

fyi, the general sales manager hates my guts now, 4+ cars bought from him. I can only deal with the General manager from now on.

That was off of a stale S-class sitting on the lot right before the new body style arrived.

Def not a GL.

There are two things difficult to negotiate at ordering - fleet discount and trade-in value.

For a fleet discount, they can tell you what the current discount is, but they can't lock you in. If the discount goes up you win, if it goes down you lose, but you are floating until delivery.

You didn't mention it, so assume that a trade-in value isn't part of the negotiation? Some have gotten a trade-in price at ordering, my dealership gave me a price but then said they'd have to 're-evaluate' at deliver to make sure there wasn't any issues (mechanical, body, etc). I chose to let them take my old GL at time of order to avoid the risk.

I have never purchased or leased a MB. This is the part about the MB leasing process that concerns me the most. My dealership wants a non-refundable deposit so my leverage is gone if they decide to mark up the money factor at time of delivery.

Is there a standard top tier money factor that MB releases to dealerships and any way to know what that is? I'm assuming I could have my dealership put in writing that they'll give me that at delivery with no mark up and then it just becomes a matter of looking it up.

My deal was locked in at time of order including sales price of new GL (6.5% off msrp) and value of trade. My trade had additional 2k miles on date of signing. No problem.
