Noise in area of B-pillar/rea driver side door

When I accelerate from standing start, or brake to come to a stop, I hear something shifting in the area of the B pillar or rear driver side door. It's brief, but consistently there.

Any ideas?

Could be something is inside the front or rear door pocket. I've had that happen- my kids will leave a toy or something there and it makes noise. Also watch the seat belts. In many cars if they don't fully retract they can bang the door/pillar.

Could be noise from the weatherstripping that several people have reported when the car's frame flexes. Mine's in the shop for that right now, but it is affecting the front doors, not rear. Try to find a spot where there is a sloped curb or ramp you can just drive one of the front wheels onto so you make the whole frame twist/flex and see if it causes the noise.

Fab, does the GL really flex that much?

A gaggle of MB's
My opinion is it is not a question of "flex" to the bad - it appears to me frankly to be the reverse, chassis/body "stiffness" to the good.

I have seen this once on a GL - and actually 3/4 times on AMG C-Coupes and AMG E-Sedans.. usually appears at about 5K miles +/- or 3-6 months from new.

In each case door gasket "lubrication" solved it completely - my techs used to borrow my Einzsett "Gummi" stick.. I think they got in a recommended MB "lube"..

It's not a matter of the body flexing. I am experiencing this consistently when accelerating from a standing start on flat surfaces, or coming to a stop - as though something is shifting within the B pillar or the passenger door. No, there isn't anything in the door pocket, and it is not the seatbelt.

I'll keep trying to diagnose it.

Well....as was said, there have been comments on this "noise" or at least something similar before......I had such an issue , same location and it drove me crazy....finally diagnosed it as "body against material" ....studied and studied till I settled on possible rub points......bottom line is ( and its a long story ) i put Chapstick on the weather striping at one point and that was months ago and the sound has never come back!

do you have kids? you dont want to know how many things ive seen fall in to the floor vents and start to roll around: pens, lipstick, marbles, popcorn kernels...

theres a good possibility that if you hear a "knock" or tap sound everything to accelerate from a stop or come to a hard stop, something is rolling around.
