Backup lights

Is it just me, or are the backup lights truly pitiful. Has anyone changed out the bulbs for brighter ones, if so, any details as to bulbs used, and if it helped?

Thanks

Most folks agree they are pitiful. My dealer swapped out some module that was supposed to make it better but it's still pitiful.

They are truly worthless but unfortunately they bulbs are soldered in place and cannot be changed. There are a few threads where people have tried hooking up a second set of lights to the trailer plugs reverse output. I'm not sure how successful they were. It just stinks that mercedes did this knowing that only the GL seems to suffer from it. My S and SL both have adequate rear lighting...

Tried trailer lighting systems. Nothing worked. Has to do with the intelligence build into the trailer power and interference with safety features. There are other threads on all of this and they all give up in the end. Maybe they will fix it at the mid-cycle. I sure hope so.

I am using a trailer hitch light for about one year now. It’s really helps during winter months and wireless switch works fine. Only problems is I can't use the hitch for anything else and sometimes I forget and drive with the light on. You can find the instructions under following post.
