Lately most reports point to the same timeframe. I guess we'll see.

I live in Chicago and today they had some Autohaus kind a stuff like registering for Mercedes coupon etc, anyway I spoke to the sales manager and he said he can start taking orders now for 2016 models and it is still showing GL not GLS and Sales Manager told me there was a Sales team from US head quarters visiting their showroom and they also said GLS would be in 2017 not 2016. Quite confusing

There has been a number of posts on this forum saying a 'refreshed' GLS would be a 2017 model and that MB may rebadge the GL as a GLS for the 2016 model but with no refresh. Rebadging the GL as a GLS for 2016 with no refresh would be odd and a little confusing to buyers, but anything is possible.
Anyway, thanks for the information.

I differ back to this,

https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-...ml#post6388741

This looks pretty official and implies the GLS will be release as a 2016 model. The question still remains whether it will be the refreshed version.

Fab posted on that same thread that MB was meeting daily to decide if the 2016 would be rebadged as the GLS but that would NOT be the refreshed model. I should have never brought up rebadging. This thread is focused on the refreshed model whenever it is released.

Spied: Bye-Bye Mercedes-Benz GL, Hello Refreshed GLS

After presenting the all-new GLE Coupe and the revised M-Class that was renamed to GLE, Mercedes is preparing to complete the family makeover with the GL-replacing GLS.

Our scoop photographers caught up with a group of lightly camouflaged GLS testers here in the States, including two cars wearing the AMG Sport Package.

There's no need to look further away than the GLE for the type of cosmetic changes awaiting the GL's successor and which include a completely restyled front end that now resembles a bloated GLA, tweaked rear bumper and tail lamp graphics, and a fresh assortment of wheels.

The same goes for the GLS' interior, as it's shared with the car we once knew as the M-Class, so expect a newly styled steering wheel and a freshened-up center console with a 7.0-inch free-standing screen for the updated infotainment system, plus new colors and trimmings.

By this point, you must have figured out that nearly everything that was done to turn the M-Class into the GLE, will be done to the longer and boxier GLS as well, so we'll probably see the range being expanded with a plug-in hybrid version sporting a 328hp V6 and 114hp electric motor producing a combined system total of 436hp. That's in addition to the rest of the V6 and V8 lineup topped by the GL63 AMG S model with 577hp (585PS).

I like the new frontend, more so on the white one on the end which is probably the AMG. The new wheels are nice too.

The silver GLS on the far end appears to be a 550. There are actually four different GLS's in these pictures.

Wheels all look the same. Perhaps the production ones will be different. These are basically the same updates that were made to the ML.

From what can be seen in these photos, the new face will bring the GLS in line with the latest design language. I can't wait to see it in the flesh. A new GLS 63 would look good in my driveway!

A new GLS 63 Would look good in any of our driveways! I'll even "settle" for an "old" GLS 63.

I hear you but we'll need the trade-in allowance to move up to a GL 63 - just sayin'

We enjoy our GL 550 but it would be fun to own an AMG. I'm sure many of you feel the same.

For the recognition, yes. Not for ultimate ride comfort.

FWIW this is what a dealer told me in early May; [Australia]

the dealer said a new model 'GLS' will be in the showrooms 3rd quarter [September].She said full details will be known about 6-8 weeks before. She expects a few new dash mods - like the command screen & some exterior changes, hinted by the 'spy' shots.

This time line would match the previous posted dealer order sheets. She had just come back from a trip to Germany, so I expect [!] some accuracy. In any event she wasn't trying to sell a current model, I was told to wait!

Just given information that 2016 will be same GL as 2015. GLS will begin arriving as 2017 in Spring 2016. Just some FYI. Was told this by someone who definitely knows and actually has a GL550 ordered for himself...

I got this information 3 weeks back from 1 of Benz Dealer in Chicago where I was visiting him for some kind of Auto Haus promotion he did told me he can now accept orders for 2016 but it is going as GL and not GLS and 2017 which the ordering would start would be in 2016 Spring with a delivery date of Aug End - Sept end.......And this was from MB Headquarters guys visiting the dealership for training the sales guys about new GLE and other new models etc.

Thanks

I knew that it was a probability, but was hoping that it would be a mid-cycle refresh. I've had a GL450 (2016) ordered for my wife for a couple months now and was kind of hoping that it would 'update' to GLS on the allocation. My build already got moved ahead to an earlier build by 3 decades...

It sounds like the refresh is too late for the normal cycle for the 2016 model, so that model will be available without the refresh.
However the refresh seems like it could be available far earlier than the usual timing for the 2017 model.
Could it be that the 2016 model will be released, but the refresh will follow less than 12 months later?
On that basis I would expect the 2016 to be very little different from what is shipping now, just'2016 model' from and order book perspective.

It is very interesting timing for those who obtained their current model GL on a three year lease towards the end of 2012. You would think it would make sense to have the face lifted model ready for those people who were early adopters versus potentially lease the same model again when they know a new model will come out within 6-9 months. Seems the exact opposite of the mentality of someone who lease (whom I assume are MB Cash cows).

What would such a person do?

I still have a suspicion MB may be planning to start building the MY2017 GLS by the end of this year and ship them to dealers 1st quarter 2016. The spy photos above would suggest they have the design changes close to completed.
