Key Fob Battery Issue
#26
whether it is 3 month or 9 months its still a design fault. My 200 series landcruiser FOB batteries have never been changed in 7 years. Still has the originals. And yes i can operate the door locks from similar distances to my C250.
I know you can hit the lock button twice to put it to sleep if its really annoying. I just pop in new batteries every 3 to 4 months. MB installed batteries last same interval.

You are right! Just checked the old battery - it was Energizer cr2025. When I went to replace it yesterday I grabbed the battery from the drawer that looked the same and was wondering why it was a tight fit - it was the 2032. Not even sure why I have it - maybe for a garage door opener...
DO NOT use 2032 - just replaced it with the proper 2025 - it was not easy to get the 2032 out!
Fabbrisd1, thanks for catching my mistake.

Yes last 2 digits are mm thickness - use CR2025 Maxell in hologram package $2.70 for 5 on Amazon - 2032 will "jam" in there - but frankly not the correct fit - depresses/ruins the rubber gaskey on the pop-off plastic lid - and causes extra pressure on a printer circuit board.
I apologize - Mercedes service advisors/salesmen/techs are simply not aware.
Mercedes has long/long relationship with Panasonic on button fob batteries - but 6 yrs ago Panasonic closed Japan factory - reopned a contract factory in Indonesia - and that's when this fob battery stuff started getting wacky with premature battery failure.
The Mercedes security system - as transmitted by the fob - is more "intensive" rf code burstwould be the best way to put it - as compared to a Hyundai as one poster referenced.
It's easy to get me worked up on this - you wouldn't believe the the blank expressions I get on corporate side.
The only thing I have been able to accomplish - the "new gen" fob's for new models starting with 17 E will be moving up to CR2032 - and security "burst" has been condensed - full code - but shrter burst - but I still can't get corp to budge off Panasonic/Indonesia -
Keep the beat !

I just bought the GL350 and a week later the key started acting weird, so i replaced the battery. The only one I had right away was 2032, yes its a tight fit. Reading all of these above posts I think Im gonna replace it to 2025, I think the battery I got is old, because most times it is not reacting to "lock" signal right away. I could lock my old toyota from 65+ ft away, but here i gotta be really close.
Can you guys lock your car from far away? Or is it a "feature" so that nobody could read your signal and hack it?

Extend battery life.
If you hold the lock and unlock buttons on the FOB for several seconds, you will see the FOB light flash a few times. This puts the key to sleep mode and won't drain the battery just sitting there.
Do this to your second key and the first key if the car won't be used for a while.

2016 GL450
My Keyless-Go is psycho. I have never received a low fob battery message, but at times, it won't detect the key. I can lock/unlock the doors with the fob, but it's not detected. I've gotten so frustrated that I've removed the damn button and shoved the key in to get where I need to be. I purchased some new batteries and will give that a try, but I'm not holding my breath. This isn't something new to the vehicle. The door lock/unlock on the handle doesn't like me either. I think the '16 GL450 just doesn't like me.

About this, in my first month of so of ownership, it was frustrating as well as I was struggling with just unlocking the door from the handle. I then realized when that happened, it was because I kinda wrapped my fingers and palm around the handle which was simultaneously indicating I was trying to unlock and lock at the same time. So now I just slip my fingers behind the handle and pull it. No more issues.
