GLS front grille retrofit to X166 GL?
Anyone try retrofitting the new GLS front grille into the X166 GL? Wonder if it's a direct fit.

If you are talking about the entire front fascia, I doubt it. The hood and headlights are also different on the GLS.

If you are referring to the grill insert, it appears slightly refined on the GLS compared to the GL from looking at photos, IMHO.

Wow I thought this can be done. And was seriously thinking of trying to make this work. it would be awesome.if it's not doable no big deal will try to make a 63 grill fit.

Not soon enough . I am looking closely at both of them to see if it'll work. I guess I have to get a gls grille in my hands before any conclusions

Hi, did you go ahead with the attempted retrofit?

The GLS grille looks much nicer than the old GL X166 grille, Id love to change it on my GL63

I plan on doing this but still not able to acquire this part from eBay. And it would be difficult for me to do as I have the illuminated star the dealer put in so not sure if I would be the best tester for this idea.

This is a common question for both ML and GL owners, its not plug and play even if you have the illuminated star. Given that you have it just enjoy it while you have it.

Won't work. Better off with the aftermarket Panamericana grill. Even then you need some skills if you have distronic because the star does not fit.
