Extended Warranty Cost for 2014 GL550

I purchased 2014 GL550 which has 34,500 miles on it.
At the time I purchased, I bought 5 year (from the purchase day) / 100,000 miles (odometer reading) together. Which made me pay $5,000 more top on the vehicle cost.
Eventually, which will give me additional 3 years and 9 month / 50,000 miles
after factory warranty is expired.
Did I pay too much?

You meant $5,000.00 not $50,000.00. Right? Was you car a CPO? Was the add'l warranty from Mercedes?

Sorry, there were so many"5"s.
Yes, I paid $5,000. This was paid when I purchased Car from used Car dealer (Not CPO).
Dealer told me that I can bring the car to any Mercedes service shop if problem occurs.

Depends on how much you paid for the car. Dealer could sell the car for less and make it up from the extended warranty. Since it is 3rd party, you may get more feedback by giving the name of the extended warranty company.

Does seem high for an extended warranty... or the GL's are not very reliable, maybe a bit of both? Hope not.

I would cancel it immediately, you typically have a month to cancel with full premium refunded.

http://www.mercedesbenzcary.com/extended-limited-warranty-pricing.html

you overpaid, go call any MB dealership and get quotes for a ELW and all you need is your vin and you can buy via credit card over the phone.

The MB warranty typically is better than an aftermarket.

Before you cancel make sure Mercedes will warranty this car since you bought it from a non-Mercedes dealer. I think Mercedes will only sell a warranty for a Mercedes purchased from a Mercedes dealer or from the Mercedes owner who had the car while it was under warranty. Need to check this out before cancelling. I expect you cannot get a 100,000 mile warranty from a Mercedes dealer at this price. Let us know what you find out.

good call, better safe than sorry.

i was the second owner for my gl550 and bought it from a jaguar dealership. I called a MB dealership later and purchased the warranty no issues. Vin+ credit card and mailed some paperwork. I went to local dealership a few weeks later to check and it showed up in their systems.

FYI, the link you posted is from my local dealership. I STRONGLY recommend NOT buying from them or even giving them your VIN. The finance guy there tried to BS me about how a vehicle not purchased from MB is simply not eligible for an ELW and how he cannot even sell me a PPM. This was despite me telling him I already had an ELW that he was not aware of at the time he spewed all this non-sense. I was the second owner who bought a traded in GL550 at a Land Rover dealership still within original factory warranty. Thankfully, I do not share such a negative opinion about their service dept. Their sales/finance division though only prefers dealing with "Pure" MB vehicles....at-least that's the impression I got.

Good to know, there are some members here in the MB Finance division that gives good deals so best to seek them out or search the forums for them.

I only posted that link since it's possibly the only dealership that publicly posts the prices. You can get anywhere from 0-20% off from what I've seen MSRP.

I bought mine from a dealership in Florida (Fields Auto Group). When I sold my car, I got a full refund from them within 2 weeks. So I've had great experiences and therefore bought the maximum CPO ELW right away.

MB will only sell an ELW on a Benz NOT purchased from a MB dealer. If it is purchased from a MB dealer and not CPO, you can not buy an extended warranty on the vehicle.

I just purchased a CPO 2103 GL550 in CA from an MB dealership. Car had 27K mile on it. Original warranty goes up to middle of 2017, CPO warranty covers 1 year (no charge) to middle of 2018. They offered me $3,400 for a 2 yrs extended warranty w/ unlimited miles through MB. They won't move on the price because they said it's set by MB, not the dealer. But I was able to get a better deal on the financing because I purchased it. Piece of mind.

Hope that helps.

That translates to approximately $1,400 per year of extended warranty, which seems pretty high. I just purchased a 2013 GL450 for $35,995 which has 46,000 miles on it. At the time of purchase, I bought a 10 year (from date of purchase / up to 125,000 miles) bumper to bumper extended warranty with $0 deductible if serviced at the same dealership where i bought the car from. I paid $5,900 on top of the vehicle cost which will give me additional 9 years and 8 months / 79,000 miles after factory warranty expires, which is approximately $610 per year. I shopped around for extended warranty prices right after, as I was given a 30-day window to cancel at no penalty. I got a quote from 4 different companies with varying figures but the average was around $1,000 per year of extended warranty. I normally keep my cars for ~7 to 10 years so I was originally looking for a 7-year extended warranty plan, but since the price for the 10 year was attractive, i ended up getting it.

@ejzach do you drive very little each year? Since warranty is capped at miles, if you are a typical driver who puts on 12k miles per year, effectively you have warranty coverage for about a little over 6 years (125,000 - 50000 = 75000).

Still great since you can't get a CPO coverage for that long. Considering the price, CPO for 2 additional years is roughly $2700. Or $1300/yr at any MB dealership compared to yours at a more realistic price of $983. Unless of course you put only ~ 7500 miles per year for 10 years.

All the 3rd party warranties dealer sells are hope when one of your shocks blow up they honor the claim or when any other expensive parts go off they cover the labor or dont use a re-manufactured part, or ask you to pitch in some $$$. I had these kind of warranties from dealership only and things changed drastically when went in for the claim with same dealership. And as you are just bound to one dealership, hope you car does not break down when you travel out of boundaries.
Better to have in writing everything they promised.

Thanks

Mileage will not be an issue for me as I drive very little each year, ~6,500 miles.

Thanks. By the way, there is an option to have the car serviced at other service shops including MB dealers/service centers for a $100 deductible.

All extended warranties have profit build in. Not sure why people don't recognize this for what it is... just a way to give some piece of mind and not that you'll be able to beat an insurance company over time. So makes sense that they'll always try to get an out of some sort.

+1

They will always find a crack and slip through and no matter how hard you go on them they will make you loose. I would say better take your money back and instead extend your CPO warranty which is more realistic and then when you are at end to the warranty period buy this warranty...
I have dealt with 3 warranty companies and trust me not every one is Trump to get easy 270 Electoral vote

$3,750 for a 7 year 100,000 warranty seems like a great deal on a 2014 GL350. My wife loves the truck so I can see her keeping it. It's coming up on 3 years old and had 40K.
Please post links of the best dealerships to buy extended warranties from.

Just purchased an MB EW for my 2013 GL350. More for piece of mind then anything else. My local dealership quoted me some foolish price (7k??), so I researched all the various recommendations/costs posted on this forum. I went with ;
Jeffrey Santos
Business Manager
Mercedes Benz of Elmbrook
International Porsche/Maserati
Phone:262-821-5000 EXT: 349
Fax: 262-785-4167
Email: jsantos@mbofelmbrook.com

very responsive. I waited too ling and only had a day or two to activate. Jeff made sure I activated within time. The other folks didnt respond to my calls/emails, except for one other.

Paid $4,100 for 7/100k which was the longest one.

Is this 3rd party extended warranty from a Mercedes dealer? Or Mercedes warranty for an original owner Mercedes?

I suspect it is the latter.

I believe it is neither. I am 2nd owner. I purchased vehicle from a used dealer, not an MB dealer. It is a genuine MB warranty though, not 3rd party.

I gave my warranty provider a call today to inquire on a claim, and learned that my coverage is 125,000 miles on top of the odometer reading at the time the warranty was purchased. I bought the warranty the same time as the car at 49,000 miles, which means the warranty is effective to 174,000 miles (125k + 49k) or up to 10yrs after date of purchase, whichever comes first. That's good to know as i averaged close to 10k last year, way more than i usually go.
