Off road-capable tires?
Hi All,
I just bought a new GLS450 with 19" wheels. I've been looking at tire choices and they're pretty limited in 275/55/19. I then looked at 20" choices and they seem a bit better, but mainly 275/55, not the 275/50 Mercedes recommends.
My question: will a 275/55/20 tire fit without rubbing? I'll pop for 20" wheels if necessary.
I spend most of my time in NW Montana with lots of driving on dirt roads. I've run Goodyear Duratrac's on my previous SUV's with good all year service both on and off road.
Thanks in advance,
Tony

Does your manual for 2017 also give tire size options as does mine? I thought there's an off road suggested fitment maybe even at a minus 1 (18") application. Winters are listed, for example. If you're really off roading, a taller sidewall from a smaller rim both allows more tire selection to you and more protection for the wheel tire assembly. Those Kevlar tires seem to give cred to the tough roads crowd.

I KO2 on my 2018 GLS450 275/55/20 - They are amazing. Small amount of increased road noise somewhat randomly but the overall ride is softer and nicer when hitting potholes. Less creaks and squeaks from the SUV as well. The ride is a bit higher and the ability to charge through snow or mud is amazin. I feel comfortable in all situations. Let me know if you have any questions. Ride height is a bit higher i think as well.

I'd be interested to know how many miles you get on them before they wear out. How many miles on them so far? I also wish I had 20" rims instead of 19". They don't make the KO2's for 19". Even in 20" you have to go up a size in diameter. According to the research I did they are about 1" larger in diameter. I don't think that would be big deal for me. They look GREAT!

Ive only had them a month or so. I expect to get at least 40k miles out of them judging by what ive read. My mpg is down about 0.7 mpg. Liveable for security. Handling and cornering feels the same as my pirelli verde tires if not better. I hated those tires... worn down after 16k miles and the worst winter traction you could imagine. Let me know if you have any questions. No brushing in wheel wells and everyone who sees my ride does a double take. That didnt happen b4

I have a question about your BF KO2. Tirerack has them for $257 USD, a bit pricey. I am coming from Michelin 275/50/R20 and want to go to 275/55/R20 or 285/50R20 and hence my question. How are the KO2s on highway in terms of speed, smoothness and braking? Not much snow in Jersey, and even when it does, I don't take my GL out that much. The Michelin LTX I have are horrible on snow so want something better. Also, how did you get the KO2s installed because they have a lower Speed rating (s= max 118 mph) than an H (max = 130 mph). Also, the difference between the 275/55 and 27/50 is greater than 3% and based on what I read on the internet, most people don't recommend a change in diameter of more than 3%. I guess this had no impact or this warning is overrated? Just today a local tire shop franchise tried to sell me 275/55/R20 saying it won't make much difference. The 285/50/R20 has a lower diameter difference and speedo off by 0.8 mph while the 275/55 has the speedo off by 2mph.
I would like the higher ride and choice of tires so leaning towards 275/55, but afraid of anything adverse. I might look for something other than BF KO2 b/c of the price. The GY Eagle GT II on size 285/50 is around $180.
So I am on the fence between 275/55 and 285/50.
