Has anyone used the stock conti's on the GL63 in the winter? Or, is it a must to put on snow tires?

18 E63s Wagon 15 GL63 (sold), 10 Turbo TT MT, A36 Bonanza, 20 JLU Rubicon

they

are useless.

MB twisted Conti 's arm to rate them all season... they are terrible plus the GL63 has a locked 60/40 split (whereas a GL550's 4matic is much more sophisticated and does a better job with putting torque to slipping tires)

Order yourself dedicated Pirelli Scorpion winters that will fit onto your OEM 21 inch wheel... disregard all the nonsense about how skinner tires work better.... I have 2 winters on these Scorpion winters and they are fabulous (I have driven in snowstorms with 16 inches of snow to VT filled with kids and not had a worry) (these tires sell out early from Tirerack.. so I would not hesitate)

++ do not buy the Pirelli "snow and ice" it is an older design and will not work as well.
++ don't buy 20 inch wheels either.. you have to be careful about offsets and some do not fit over your front calipers.

PM me if you have further questions.

Enjoy your ride!
