550 vs 63
I am considering purchasing our second GL (currently have a GL350).
The price is quite different between the AMG and 550. Anyone have any thoughts that would sway me one way or another (aside from the 550 being about 20k less)?
Thanks!!
P.S. I posted this in the GL forum as well and one member recommended I post here as well. Thanks!

2012 BMW 550, 2015 GL63
We've had both, 2013 GL550 and 2015 GL63. Both are awesome vehicles. We outfitted the 550 with the Designo seats and would give them the nod over the 63 seats. As mentioned on the other forum the BO sound system is ok but we don't hear much difference. Of course, the engine in the 63 is invigorating and the exhaust sound amazing. To do it all over again we'd get the GL63. Splurge a little and get the GL63.

A person does not buy a GL63 because it is the most practical choice. I can say this, based on the fact you are inquiring... If you get the GL63, you won't ever find yourself wishing you had the GL550. If you get the GL550, while it is a very nice vehicle, you may find yourself wishing you had pulled the trigger on the GL63.

Would appreciate people's thoughts on these two deals...

Used 2014 GL63 AMG $101,000 (8000 miles)
MSRP on each one is $121,000

red calipers are part of the charm!
as I mentioned in the 166 forum.. the warranty on the used car will be extended under the CPO program..
physically... no difference between 14 and 15 other than the lack of a six disc changer and no rear sunroof (better anyway as it gets quite hot)
forget a 550... once you go AMG you will never look back.. in fact, in your mind the new AMG GTS will start to look viable as a commuter car!!

I took a look at the new AMG GT-S at a local dealer. Very nice. It has a switch to open a baffle in the rear mufflers for a loud but throaty exhaust note. I enjoyed it.

I just ordered the new GLS63, I debated a while before and originally ordered the 550. I knew deep down inside one day i'd want the 63, so I bite the bullet and changed the order to the 63

Warning- Bang & Olufson radio
Heads up! The B & O radio option deletes the spare tire. I guess they needed the room for a larger sub-woofer or something like that. Instead, there is a chemical sealant and a small air compressor. This is almost useless unless there is just a slow leak in the tread. Otherwise it is a flatbed to the dealership or tire place. Neither of who will have an OE tire in stock. Wait two days or so for either place to get the tire shipped from Tirerack. You will be without your GL63 for at least three or four days. Fortunately for me, I had the foresight to purchase a spare from a salvage yard very soon after taking delivery. I strapped it in the back compartment. When I blew out the sidewall on a sharp granite curb I did not have to take the flatbed route. Just to complicate matters though, .the donut spare can not be safely placed in the front because of the massive front brakes on the GL63. So the donut goes on a back wheel and the back wheel is placed on the front.
BTW, the radio is not worth the price in the GL. I agree with 1stGL that the radio offers only slight improvement. I ordered the B & O because I had it my Audi Q7 and the sound was phenomenal. None of the local dealers had a GL with the B & O to listen to beforehand. Big dissappointment in the GL. Fortunately the exhaust never ceases to be music to my ears....

^ that's great to know. I was hoping it would sound as good as the Burmeister in the S class but I guess it does not. In addition, the additional 6K price tag, you will not get that back when you trade your car in or sell it.

. I just bought a new 2015 GL63 MSRP 130300 for 103650. There is a black one in Coral Gables Fl for 99900. MSRP 122500. There are about 10 2015 leftovers and a boatload of 2016 units. 2017 units are on the dealer lots. Good luck

I had a 2013 GL550 with HK sound system. I specifically looked for a GL63 with B&O system, I personally love how the tweeters and speakers look in the door and how it sounds.
I run oversized tires, so a spare doesn't help too much. I anticipate being stuck in a flat tire, but also purchased AAA with a 200 mile towing distance. I wouldn't use it for a road trip due to the choice of wheels/tires I use, but that's why I have a minivan.
HK VP9 - probably the best deals for new cars I've seen for quite a while. That's the price of certified used ones.
