New member with a GL63 from Chicago

Hey Guys, names Manny. Im from chicago and just purchased a 2014 GL63 AMG. Love the AMG, this thing is a beast! I came from a 2009 Infiniti FX50 and before that had a supercharged 2005 G35.

Havent done much to the car just a ValentineOne Hardwire and tinted the front windows to match the rear.

Heres a pic...

Nice ride! I am also from the Chicagoland area. Do you plan getting winter tires when it gets colder?

I got the black leather with the wood trim. I really wished I could find one with black lacqueir trim....maybe I can find someone with the trim that has it for sale...

Oh sweet! Where at? I'm in wheeling. Nice to know I got other GL guys nearby... My idea for the winter was to get some winters on my stock 21s and get nice summer wheel and tires. Any suggestions?

Schaumburg. This would be my first winter with my GL63, I have summer tires now (ContiSportContact™ 5). Not sure I will be able to make it this winter without putting on winters, what do you think?

I was thinking about getting the following:
Tires: http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...966&vid=024677
Wheels: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291477143732?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITCaps: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Mercedes-AMG-Red-Black-Center-Cap-Wheel-Hub-Cover-NEW-Set-of-4-/121733618015?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=2xlbRZFXf0PxMTYDuuNY2by%252BgAA%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

@Hegone The dealership should be able to order the black lacquer trim and install it for you.

@bar-ah Definitely go with the Pirellis for the winter. They are making some of the best SUV tires right now.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Few more questions I have:

I have a 2014 GL63 and can't seem to find the setting in the dash display about how to change the ambient lighting color..? It's light blue at all times. I went through all the setting in the lights options and it only tells me settings on turning on/off the daytime running lights and other stuff like that. I don't see anywhere where it says change the ambient color. I googled it and online it says there is three color options.

Can anyone give me a reputable brand of forged wheels in like a 22inch or 23inch size for our GL's? What do everyone usually go for? I want to start looking for some before next summer.

Does anyone know if they make a tune for the airmatic suspension to lower it to the height after the car has been locked? After I install the new wheels my next mod would be to give it the stance and I think the drop it sits at after you lock it is perfect!

For wheels, were you thinking 1-piece or multi-piece? 360 Forged has a good series of 1-piece/monoblock wheels. I'd also recommend looking at RSV Forged and iForged for 2-piece and 3-piece wheels. RSV has very modern designs, they have put a lot of attention to detail into engineering as well. iForged are the originators of concave (and flowform) wheels. Their designs are traditional forged styles and priced very competitively. Those three brands will offer more than enough options for wheels for the GL63.

We also offer tires through TireRack so that you can consolidate ordering your custom wheel and tire package through us. Now onto lowering...this is the easy part. Fully adjustable lowering links are available for the X166. They allow you to lower the ride height to your driving needs and eliminate the huge fender gap.

There are not too many custom GL63s, but there are a ton of aftermarket parts for the vehicle. Hopefully this helps!

Snow Tires- Don't Wait!

There is little choice in snow tires and when they sell out that is it for the season.
Last year, I got pirelli scorpion winter tires in the stock 21 size. They were excellent in the worst winter on record in Massachusetts. Got them from the tire rack.com
