GL63 compression issue
Hi all..
havent posted in a while but have been uptodate with everyones posts..
recently got a 14' GL63 CPO from an out of state dealer
within 2 days of driving had CEL come on
long story short- found to have low compression on cylinder 5-- underwent a very long electric and mechanical compression test
my master tech at local MB dealership- awesome- known him a decade.. has opened issue with tech assistance and feels cylinder head or engine may need to be changed
thoughts or suggestions or repair?
MB corporate already involved- i have asked for this to be escalated higher and that the dealer who sold it - replaces it with another one
cant justify fixing a car to this extent with such short ownership..
all thoughts and ideas welcome
thanks

I agree
thats what I have told them
only issue is that the dealership that sold it is in CA and I'm in the midwest
I told corp that Dealership took advantage of throwing a CPO cert on a car that they knew had issues..
lets see what happens today

MBWorld Fanatic!
Hope this works out for you. Very interesting issue to have an engine swap which I am sure would be easy to confirm and would have to be justified by the dealer that did it.
Keep us posted.

as of now thats what their saying, tech assistance and field inspector want head taken out to investigate more-- I told em thats all fine but not on my time and money.. the dealer who sold it can get whatever inspection they want--
I'm done with this car - need to get a refund and I need another car as soon as this is done..
the corporate manager agrees with that - of course now the weekend has cost more time, but lets see what they have worked out on monday.
Now confused as what to - do I get another CPO or have them get a GLS63 - provided they have one coming off vance thats not preordered..

Check my thread on the Check Engine Light below.
Curious that mine was the #5 Cylinder as well.
I've put on some miles since the engine repair was done and not had a single problem.

yea my master tech and shop foreman said that its apparently known in the tech world; and yea its always cyl 5; they dont know why its always that same cylinder- maybe cuz its early in the firing sequence (1 and then 5)
i did read about your car as well and happy its running fine..
I think my guy at MB here was also was notifiied about your issue and thats how they concluded the cylinder head/valve seat must be the issue and hence repair being very extensive..
but since this happened to me literally a couple days after getting the car- MB has bought it back- confirmed earlier this week.
oddly enough i have had the exact same engine on another AMG but never once had any issues at all..
possibilites for the damage could be as simple as bad gas or obviously a major tech issue-
I didnt wanna deal with fixing it as this one was cpo and was probably driven this way for a while and I asked them how much downstream damage are they willing to investigate amd change - O2s, cats etc etc -- at that point wasnt worth it and they bought it back..
now waiting to see what they find for me.. as now I need another one..
