Standard GLA AMG vs Performance exhaust

In Canada the GLA 45 performance exhaust only comes as part of a rather expensive package that I did not get. Now my question:
What is the actual difference between the standard GLA 45 and the "performance exhaust" anyways?
They obviously sound different but in what else do they differ? Hardware software?
Thanks.

I am interested to know as well because I found it crazy that it is only available as part of a package (4 900$).

In the US you can add this option for 500$.

It's just louder and throatier. Both standard and perf exhaust has the flap.

To me on a 60k car with a 2.0t engine, the performance exhaust worth every penny, u can hear the exhaust when the car is at idling (nothing to do with cold start, in fact it gets louder when car gets warmer) and the exhaust is louder when accelerate even at comfort mode (if this is not an advantage, I believe gla250 would be a better buy for you). I am pretty sure when u rev it out, the non performance exhaust would still give u that bang from gear changing and proper sound at 6k rpm.

I have the performance (AMG) exhaust on my car but would like something quieter - have been told nothing is available by my dealer.

Is this true?

FYI - I am in Calgary.

Thanks for the input so far but I still don't know the answer to my my question:

What is the actual difference between the standard GLA 45 and the optional "performance exhaust"?

To Gadget1 If it turns out to be hardware related, do you want to trade?

In terms of performance, the car performs the same with or without the sport exhaust, sport exhaust will make the car lounder at all time even when the car is idling. What I found is without performance exhaust the car sounds flat, very 4 cylinder like, I could even put it as a lounder version of a Honda. With the performance exhaust, exhaust sounds deeper. I got the car in Canada, performance exhaust was in one of big (non performance oriented) packages, I found it nice to have. Like I said early on, if u are doubting about adding a performance part on a amg or having a little concern on the budget, gla250 would be a better buy.

Sichenturbo: Thanks for the input.
I already got my 45. As you can read in my post I know the "performance exhaust" is louder - but why?

Anybody with some real technical information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The standard exhaust has two resonators while the performance exhaust only has one.

bmoney12: Many thanks! Great info.
Would you know if it is now just a matter of removing one? Or is the single one different also -as I would suspect? Is there any coding in the software involved that i.e control the flaps differently?

Yes I believe you can remove one. The below threads should be of some help.

Silver-Baron,

Not sure if I need to change anything - local MB dealer says I will screw up the back pressure and the engine won't run right...??

So, if others are removing a mid-reasonator to create a performance exhaust system - can I add a reasonator to take out some of my noise and still keep the performance?

Has anyone done any soundproofing to address that has actually worked? Sounds like some of the "noise" is a reverb that is common in SUV's - I noticed when I opened the sunroof yesterday that it really cut down the drone/buzz.

No you'll create too much back pressure.

Growl!

Well, I have found this thread fascinating.

I have the performance exhaust on my GLA45 AMG and have delighted in what one commentator quipped "startles pedestrians."

I bought my car in Houston in the intense heat of the Southeast Texas Summer. The car was "throaty," but it IS a Mercedes and so I did not think it too excessive.

Well, recently we have started getting our Mediterranean fall temps and the other day I put the windows down, the top back and was astonished at the noise level.

Not a bad level, just, well loud. I love it. I revel in it. I feel like a boy in HS with a new muscle car. Freaky.

'scuse me, got to go "startle some pedestrians."

If you want a really good sound level out of the GLA45 AMG for a reasonable price then put on the Remus with the sound controller and remote.

When I'm cruising around town or down the hwy, I don't want allot of noise. It's unnecessary it doesn't denote performance, just noise! However, I want a choice when and where to utilize it.
