Automatic Conveyor Car Wash Danger
Bought a 2017 AMG GLA45. Here in The Okanagan Valley, we get a lot of sand & gravel in winter. Either life or circumstances make it so we can't always wash our cars by hand. So off we go to Skogie's to get the car washed. Line up tires with conveyor no probs. Car in neutral, hands off everything, press smart key button to kill engine. No problem. Rollers come up and gently pull car through. Good job and okay to use since car covered 100% with 3M Pro. Get to end and says start and drive away. PROBLEM. Car must be shut off to avoid carbon monoxide for employees and to prevent water vapor intake for engine. Wheels still being pushed by gears. Press starter. NOTHING!!!!! Car must have brake pedal depressed to start. Argh! Risking car wash equipment damage and/or power train damage by applying brakes to start when still in active tire conveyor. How could any manufacturer design a car without having this ability to start in rolling neutral????? My 2010 GLK 350 allowed this fine. My AMG does not.
