Acoustic Glass, Driver/Passenger Doors

Best I could do. Glass is marked acoustic. Edge shows two pieces of glass laminated together. You might need to enlarge to see.

Here in Oz, I do not think we have special glass.
The front glass has been machined, so hard to see if it's dual layered.
May have to post photos separately. Hope this helps, we have AMG, GLC250d, with sun roof, etc. Highway speeds here max at 110kph. So far no wind noise at that speed.

I do see the black line on my front driver & passenger glass. Using calipers, the fronts are about 3/16" thick and the rears are about 5/32". I can't get any nerdier than that! I took my GLC up to 80 mph in the wee hours of sunlight this morning before the interstate slows to a crawl and I could not detect any dramatic increase in wind noise between 55mph and 80mph, just what I would consider a normal change.
This does beg the question - in a luxury brand like MB, why wouldn't they use acoustic glass everywhere. Seems like a silly place to cut corners.

Yesterday spoke with the dealer's technical expert.
He looked at my vehicle and allowed this was the first occurrence he had seen of the issue. He took pictures and notes and told me he would seek a solution and contact me. I'm going to exercise patient and give the system a chance to work. However, in the end making me happy will require the driver's side window be acoustic glass.
Looking at the edge of the right side glass, marked "Acoustic", it is definitely different from the opposite side. The photo posted above by index is exactly what mine looks like.

Will do Doc.
I'm learning there are sometimes big differences in vehicle configuration and options depending on which market is in play.
For example, acoustic glass is optional in Canada but not in the US. In the US running boards are optional but not so in Australia.
The point being an owner could be upset because his/her vehicle is missing a feature that is optional in their market but standard in another.

Going to the Dealership tomorrow to start the process for getting me acoustic glass. That's what I saw on the stripped model when I ordered so I expect the same. I will not take 'no' for an answer. I will update when I have further info.

Back from the Dealership. They had 3 new GLC's that had just come in and all 3 of them had acoustic glass. The sales agent and the Dealership had no idea there was a difference. They are checking into it and getting back to me. They promised they would do something, I hope they do. The saga continues.

My dealer's lead service writer informed me today they have ordered a replacement, acoustic glass with intent to replace the existing non-acoustic glass.
Problem solved....almost.
An example of vaunted MB customer service?

Thanks for the info. I am glad they are doing the right thing. It makes me wonder what goes on in the factory to have one window with acoustic glad and one without.

Glass is in and I am going Monday to have it installed. I had the guy verify it was the acoustic glass while I had him on the phone. He came back and said yes it was plus, some insulation. Interesting. Can't wait.

Don't expect a night and day difference between the two glasses. I did an extensive back to back comparison a couple of days ago complete with spl readings over the same highway at the same speed. Traveling eastbound, (with the wind), the average readings were exactly the same. The acoustic glass actually had a worse momentary maximum spl reading. Traveling westbound, (against the wind), the acoustic glass measured 1db better than the standard glass.
Even though my dealership offered to replace my glass with the acoustic, I'm not a fan of having a dealer take apart my rattle free doors for such an inappreciable difference, so I think I'm going to decline. Disappointing though that the Mercedes didn't seem fit to install it on my 60K+ factory order.

I'm reaching the same conclusion. Not sure I want the dealer messing around with my doors for a barely perceptible change.
I went to the dealer on Friday and looked at 6 or 7 GLCs they had on hand. The front side glass was made by 3 different manufacturers. Only the Soliver glass said "Acoustic Glass". So maybe it's just branding? Very Mysterious.

Am expecting the difference between the two transparencies will be imperceptible. However, that's not the point.
