GLC300--Two batteries?

Does the GLC300 have an auxiliary or second battery, as do some other Mercedes, such as my 2015 E350, which has a main battery in the engine bay, and a second one in the boot? Or does it just have the one large battery on the passenger side in the engine bay?

No idea......but my last car had 2. 1 under passenger seat and 2nd in the boot (trunk)

I see connection points under the bonnet (hood) but haven't found the battery!

250d has only one battery in the engine bay. Covered by plastic shroud.
There is a smart bar code on the inside fuel filler cap and elsewhere, when you scan it it tells you where the battery is, as well as air bags and other items that emergency workers need to be aware if cutting the car.
In Oz the coded sticker is wrong, it shows where all items are, but for a LHD ,, not RHD..
!! Go figure... !
Also be aware it's not a normal battery, due to stop go Teck.
Our Mazda 3 has stop go tech and the battery is around 25% dearer than standard unit.
If you lift the shroud cover near the battery terminal you will find the battery and the cranking power and MB part number.

Hi Teckno,

Thanks. Yes, I found the primary battery. I like to at least take covers off and snoop around under the hood just so I know where things are.

I emailed my salesman to get info about the US GLC300, but is is likely the same as the 250d, which we don't get (yet),

Ah, a person after my own heart.
I too like to know, so no surprises later when things go wrong.
Interesting MB hide the brake fluid reservoir under the opposite shroud. Means you cannot easily see brake fluid levels, but in reality they are usually ok, just out of sight and out of mind !
Cheers

Thanks once more, mate. I was in your wonderful country in the early 60s as a youngster when I was a US Marine, on loan to the RAAF at Pearce for a while--great times. I went back a couple of years ago, and visited several places, including your city, Mighty Melbourne. I had a nice walk along Collins Street, ogling all the very expensive merchandise, a la Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.

I scanned this rescue card code by the driver's side door labels, this came up:

GLC300--Two batteries?-f1772a43-298e-44a2-846b-9888609761e0_zpszkeeznbc.jpeg

I guess two batteries in the GLC according to the code scanned.

Thanks! That confirms what I got from my sales guy:

“Yes sir, Every one of our vehicles with the electronic shifter will have the extra battery that will put it into gear at least in case the battery dies”.

"It is located under the right side dash"

I intend to take a peek under the dash to see if I can locate it, once the rain (yes, RAIN in So Cal) gives me a break.

Thanks,
Never seen the battery. No info in manual re type, capacity or life cycle ?
Be interested to know how you determine if it fails and how to replace, with what.
I assumed from diagram, it might be for deploying power for rams, air bags ?

Very cool. Just scanned it myself. I wonder what the "Pedestrian Protection" is? Its the icon on each side by the batteries that look like a red reverse opening hood, like a SAAB. : )

Pedestrian bit is safety feature that pops up the rear of the bonnet to deflect animal or person from hitting windscreen. Not sure where they land ! After that deflection. No nets installed. - yet !

Interesting, thanks. Googled it and found the following, for an E Class anyhow.

The Mercedes engineers have continued their long-standing commitment to protecting pedestrians by introducing an active bonnet as standard for the new E-Class. In the event of an accident, a system of springs raises the rear section of the bonnet by 50 millimetres within a matter of milliseconds, thus enlarging the deformation zone. The system is reversible and can be reset manually by the driver.

Volvo's also have this feature.

Guessing this is an EU requirement.

Had my GLC in for A service. Eco stop start stopped working. Codes showed up in system. Bad main battery and voltage regulator for system. No second battery on GLC per technician.

I looked up under the right side of the dash, and saw nothing that looked like an access panel for a battery or anything else. There is a fuse panel cover in the R kick panel, but again, nothing to indicate there might be a second battery under the dash.

I hope this hood pop up feature is such that it propels the drunk jaywalker over the car without touching the windscreen or roof. It should also automatically call the emergency service to come pick up the body.

My gut feel is this feature has little to do with M-B's commitment to pedestrian safety and more to do with the companies requirement to comply with EU over regulation.

At least give the Euros some credit for walking when they're drunk instead of driving like in the US. +/- 10,000 DWI deaths every year, and my sense tells me it's rarely the driver that dies.
