Audio 20 Speaker Change

I was not smart and didn't get the burmeister on my glc43.

So, in attempt to make the sound better, I had Best Buy install:

kicker hideaway 8inch powered sub in the rear storage compartment(very hidden) $200 + 100 install

And

mtx thunder 40 4" speakers in front doors to replace the factory speakers $80+$60 install

sounds MUCH better

If my maths is right, that was $440 well spent. Enjoy...

Looks very reasonable- I'm similarly disappointed with the Audio 20 system- wish I'd gone with the burmeister option but didn't think the stock system would be so poor. Did you just replace the front 2 speakers and not the four? And were the next speakers fitted behind the exiting grilles- keen to do something similar- but keen that changes aren't noticeable. Many thanks

the MTX Thunder 40's fit well behind the existing grill. I only did the 2 front's for now and it seems to be enough. I read that the back speakers might have less space to work with so I didn't want to spend a bunch of money for the install to find out they don't fit. The hideaway subwoofer is just enough to pack a small punch and it fits in the storage area under the trunk space. The only real issue would be if you have people sitting in the back - they might be in for a little bit of a loud ride!

Is the Audio 20's power output sufficient to drive a pair of larger speaker?

I wouldn't call passing on the Burmester "not smart". Now, letting the disgruntled staff at Best Buy work on your new GLC43, that is a move I wouldn't recommend.

Where is the crossover for this base system? Any crossover or EQ integrated into the headset? If there is nothing special, should be pretty straight forward to install aftermarket components?

I would look for a reputable, established car audio spot that has a proven track record of doing high end audio in high end vehicles. I would want someone who has extensive experience working on late model german luxury brands, so they now how to properly take the interior apart to replace speakers, amps, etc., without tearing it to shreds. I would also look for someone who has experience in audio engineering or the like, and who knows how to recommend and put components together so they actually sound good.

I simply wouldn't trust that anyone working at best buy would meet those qualifications, or that they would take the time and care to ensure that the car was taken apart and put back together the way it should be.
