Low Fuel coming on
Fuel Gauge Observation - 2017 GLC-300 AWD:
There are 1591 total miles, and 426.0 trip miles on the odometer.
Gas gauge was down to second little square, and when it reached one square the low-fuel light came on. I drove less that one mile to fill up.
Was surprised to put 16.3 gallons of gas in the vehicle with the tank capacity
listed as 17.4 gallons. That equates to 1.1 gallon reserve, or approximately 28.7 miles until empty. Not much of a reserve if you’re on some of the less traveled highways.
Knowing this, I will use 400 trip miles as another indicator for time to refuel.
Not a Rant – Just an observation!

Good observation.
Another point to consider : try and leave 1/3 fuel in tank, then fill up before fuel light comes on. I understand with modern cars, both petrol and diesel that the fuel has a second purpose other than allowing you todrive from A to B.... the fuel acts as a cooling reservoir to disapate the heat generated by the electric pump. Prolonged, or regular overheating by running with fuel light on, or pump not fully submerged could reduce working life and promoted premature failure of the pump.
I also regularly use a diesel fuel conditioner and a fuel injector cleaner from time to time to ensure clean fuel system. Diesel quality in Oz not as good as UK / Europe, not sure re USA.

with regards to that, in BC and the Washington State area, the service manager at my dealer told me that there were huge problems awhile back with diesel's that had the check engine light always coming on. turns out that the fuel here was such a low quality they had to come up with a software patch to allow the bad fuel to not turn on the CEL.
i don't know if it is still like that, this was a few years ago.
