iPhone4S in GLK questions

  • So got my wife's iPhone4S bluetooth paired in the 2011 GLK. Remarkably easy - check.
  • Got her GMail contacts loaded into the MMI/COMAND via an android workaround - relatively easy - check.
Of course being a human & curious, I ask: what can I do if i plug the iP4S into the MMI interface cable in the glove box?

  1. Will it allow me to make/recv phone calls via the the MMI?
  2. Will it allow me to play music loaded on the iP4S?
  3. Will it allow me to look at the contact list on the iP4S?

Dunno. What I do know is that a pair of Blackberry Torches will pair individually (one at a time depending on who gets in first) with the GLK Bluetooth and calls can be made/answered via voice control/COMAND from our collective address books. Totally awesome! If/when I remember to get an AUX cable for the phones I report back on music, etc. Now, if we can manage to get the headlight washers to pair with Bluetooth and work when I want them to work, all will be fine in East Texas.

Speaking of Android workarounds, how would I get our Blackberry contacts loaded into our Android Honeycomb 3.2 powered Toshiba Thrive tablet?

1) Since it is Android, one of the best part of a Google product is that you can backup/sync your contacts to Gmail.

2) I would set up a free Gmail account & then use any of the tutorials below to backup your contacts to Gmail.

http://connectedhq.com/blog/2011/05/...-address-book/
http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/
http://helpblog.blackberry.com/2010/...nc-blackberry/

3) Synchronizing contact:
When you first sync with Google, all the contacts from your phone are saved to your Gmail contacts in a group called my contacts.

4) Then on your thrive, you would just connect to that Gmail account & pull down your contacts.

For what it's worth, I plugged my iPhone 4S into my wife's GLK, which is not paired over Bluetooth and it whilst the iPhone reports the connection, the GLK doesn't register it at all. Haven't tested the wife's iPhone 4 yet.

Strangely, last time I tried my iPhone 4S, the AUX option disappeared from the the stereos disk menu. I can't even select AUX at the moment! Tried various combinations of rebooting the iPhone and / or plugging & unplugging the phone back in.

I will check with MB next week (possible issue with noise from heater blower) and report back.

The stereo is the standard non-navigation one.
