Hi there,

I've just registered as I am on the fence about replacing my 2008 Audi A4 with the new 2013 GLK 250 Bluetec diesel. I will be using it as a company vehicle and travel approximately 40,000km (~25,000mi) annually and great gas mileage is a must.

I was considering the Audi A3 TDI, Golf TDI, and a few others, but none provide the total package that the GLK diesel does in terms of size, refinement, looks, etc...

I see many people posting mileage numbers based on the dash display, but I am hoping that current owners can post in this thread what MPG or L/100km they are actually achieving using the proper mathematical calculation for fuel consumption.

I do not own a GLK250, so I can not tell you the real world's mileage.

However, based on my GLK350, the computer's mileage is very accurate.

At the beginning, I was trying to calculate the mileage manually but soon I realize it was not necessary.

just had my first tank filled up after going 844 km..

just a shade over 61 L..

very satisfying considering 70% of my driving is done in the city..

MB claims a full tank goes 1000 km.. i would imaging that's all highway driving..

you should seriously purchase glk250.. it's a phenomenal vehicle..

Mine is a 4 cyl. 220 CDI, not a 250. But just in case you are interested, I averaged 7.4 l/100 km over 20,000 km (mostly motorway driving, at the local speed limit of 130 km/h).

Point of interest: MB just recalled my car (once again!) for new fuel injectors. I now have some solenoid injectors instead of the original high-tech, but reportedly unreliable piezo-electrics. I was anticipating an increased fuel consumption, but over the last 1,500 km, I actually noticed a significant improvement. I'm down to somewhere around 6.5 l/100 km.

I don't know if there is going to be the same recall for the 6-cylinder Diesels, but if such is the case, fear not! Fuel consumption will probably improve, if anything else.

That's fantastic. I do about 80% highway driving so I am quite hopeful that I could achieve mid 6's per 100km (around 35mpg).

MB Burlington sales guy has offered me a 24 hour test drive so I can actually get a feel for the GLK250 and check out its mileage for the type of driving I do. Pretty awesome considering that I've recently bought both an Audi and a BMW and neither dealers offered me a 24hr test drive.

Up here in Canada, we don't use the US gallon. Based on Canadian calculations at approx 4.54 litres per imp. gallon, my numbers show just a shade over 39 mpg imperial. Not bad at all for a tank @ 70% city driving. Should be able to hit the low to mid 40's on a nice long highway run.

To the OP- my wife and I just signed off the final contract on our GLK 250 this morning. Looks like ours is ahead of schedule as it was supposed to arrive in Halifax on June 17 but is now scheduled to land on May 31

I'll add my mileage comments to this thread once it arrives and we get a tank or two under the belt.

I just got mine this week and with a whopping 200km on the odo Cruised on the Highway for about 90km with the Cruise set at between 110-and 120 and got 6l/100km - that's stupidly good.

Just driving normally I get around 7 L/100km.

The sport button doesn't seem to make that big a difference on economy but it sure feels peppier like my Wife's ML350 Bluetec.

I've had mine for over a month now...I drive 70/30 highway/city and on my first tank the numbers were 7.4l/100 km (32 mpg) and the second fillup got better at 6.9l/100km (34 mpg). I do tend to ride the vehicle hard but I was pleased to see better mileage/gallon and it continues.

My impressions from a test drive and what the salesman is saying, 50mpg is very easily attained with this car (5.5-6L/100kms). On my test drive in hilly terrain/rough roads and lots of stop signs I managed 8l/100kms, my R320 cdi in this test would show about 10-11L/100kms. With 4000kms on the demo car it was reporting 8.1L/100kms average speed 50km/hr. I fully believe them when they say 5.5 on the highway given this info from the demo. I can manage 8L/100km on my R with the 18" summer tires most of the time, this GLK was doing it with 20" and city test drives conditions/heavy throttle(with significant for the eastern half of the country hills). I think it will do the same fuel economy as a tdi sedan (VW Golf, Jetta, Audi A3) under the same conditions, how they managed no idea but our 2000 Jetta tdi automatic manages 5.5L lifetime after half a million kms. The other thing I noticed about Mercedes current diesel they don't suffer from winter fuel economy drops like VW does, the mileage in our R class gets better in the winter with 17" wheels, it drops to the low 7's/100kms no matter the temp it is truly amazing. They get upto operating temp pretty quick and stay there, The VW's usually loose 10-20% fuel economy cause the thermostat never opens all winter...
I was also REALLY impressed with the driving experience, if the saleman had only offered a few grand more on the R class trade in it would be in our driveway! Tons of power with a quick response, highway favourable gearing from the 7spd (very low rpms), great ride and handling on rough roads (incredible suspension tuning and steering response), it really does it all in a nice size package, I hope Mercedes decides to advertise this vehicle (they have not yet!) and sell tons of them so I can get a used one soon!

32MPG first tank; 24MPH second tank, and now working on the third tank. On windy, narrow mountain roads, even with no luggage, I don't expect much more than 25MPH, but we'll see.

Still good numbers and as you wrote "real." I've seen one or two really ridiculous claims on here! Still wondering if I should have ordered the Diesel instead of the gas/petrol GLK... I suppose I can change my mind since I was told I could only order a 2014 (no more 2013's) and they're not building them yet.

Are you talking about FO or ED order? My ED order made on May 21st is for 2014 GLK250BT with delivery date Aug. 26th. No pricing yet...

I'm in Germany ordering through Military/Diplomatic sales. Towards the end of April I tried to order a 2013 GLK but was told no more orders for 2013 but I could order a 2014. They said the 2013 production line stopped and they were "re-tooling" for 2014 production with 350's becoming available in July and Diesels in August. They still cannot provide the 2014 base price.

Here are 2 examples of real world MPG. The first picture is a drive on country roads at the speed limit (50-55) with the occasional drop to 25 MPH going through a small town and 2 or 3 red lights in which I came to a complete stop. I averaged 44 MPG on this particular drive without doing anything too special other than taking it easy. The other one is my overall MPG over more than 3000 miles, which includes mostly highway but a lot of hard launches as the torque is addictive. Over 34 MPG overall.

Calculate mileage, not from the gauge, but from miles driven divided by pump dispense. It WILL be different.

Real world AVERAGE m.p.g. for my 2013 GLK250 Bluetec, after 1,500 U.S. miles, is 27 city and 37 highway.

Just refueled another time. Forgot to reset the trip on the first refueling so I ran just under 900 miles in combination of dirt "almost 4WD trails", street and heavy traffic, many country roads and just a bit of freeway, some mountain climbing (through the Alps twice) and up and down many hills elsewhere. Most of the time was with 5 full sized persons in the car and over half the time with luggage for all. Calculated mileage was 32.6 MPG. The gauge on the car showed 31.3 MPG.

Frankly I expected much less MPG than what I got considering the terrain and traffic, so I'm delighted! Not a single hitch with the car, and absolutely no complaints with the car. Have almost 2K miles on the clock.

We've hit some windy areas. I've read in a number of posts about wind noise as though there is a leak to the interior. I've experienced that on BOTH sides of car depending on wind direction. I've concluded it is turbulence on the OUTSIDE of the car, which noise transfers to the interior on occasion. Without cross winds the car is typically quiet.

We have had our for about 4 weeks. Just got back from a round trip drive from Fremont, CA to Santa Rosa, CA. Distance is about 92 miles one way. Mostly freeway driving. Computer said 40 mpg each way. I have not checked it manually. I drove between 60 and 65, and trip is mostly freeway. Not bad for a vehicle with a sticker rating of 33 mpg highway. I also have a VW Jetta TDI, so I am used to getting 40+ mpg on the highway. Nice to have two vehicles that can reach that mark.

Another GLK250 m.p.g. update, 36.3 m.p.g. at 74 m.p.h. at 86 degrees with a/c on and four passengers on a 130 mile trip, mostly highway. 2,000 miles on odometer.

I would not consider calculated fuel consumption over the course of 130 miles to be "real world." Yes, I did see your previous post.

Just rolled past 10,000 km on my GLK250. This week I drove from Toronto to Halifax with a fully loaded vehicle. My highway mileage was 6.4/100km while averaging about 115 km per hour. For US readers that is 37 US miles per gallon at 71 miles per hour. In Imperial gallons that is 44 mpg.

Fantastic mileage! Any comments or feedback on the driveability of the 250? I've done that drive a few times earlier in my life and its a long haul. Did you take the Canadian route or did you hit NY, VT, NH and ME?

We are still waiting for the call from our Calgary dealer. Our 250 landed in Halifax a couple of weeks ago...getting pretty excited but not nearly as much as my wife. Anybody looking for a really nice loaded '10 CR-V EX-L?

We took the Canadian route and stopped in Quebec City. Nothing like it in North America. the lower St. Lawrence area is very scenic. Nice drive, quiet so you can listen to music. Surprisingly comfortable seats. Great handling and brakes. Engine is great especially at low speeds. You will love it.
