2016 Engine Choices

If the next gen GLK follows the newly introduced C-class, we MIGHT see a DI 3.0L Turbo V-6 to replace the 3.5L V-6. Surprisingly, they are calling the C-class V-6 as the C400. MB really is confusing their naming scheme!

So the 2016 GLK400 might have a smaller displacement engine, but have a higher number on the hatch! I don't expect the 2.0L turbo 4 from the C-class to make it into the GLK in the USA, but the 2.1 Bluetec will probably be available.

Do you think this is a good move to replace the 3.5L NA V-6 with a 3.0L Turbo V-6 in the GLK? With the looming CAFE requirements increasing very soon, I don't think the "big" V-6 will make it into the next gen GLK.

I would welcome a turbo on the GLK. They're not really designed for anything but going around town, and the extra power would be great. I like the 350 in the GLK now, and prefer it to the 3.0 in my C300. It feels much more potent, and dropping down to a 3.0 turbo would put these GLKs in the 325 hp range at least. I just hope they don't follow BMW's lead and drop all standard V6s down to turbo I4s. That would be horrible in the GLK.

Think of it, you could have a GLK 250 with the same engine as a CLA250, and the GLK 250 Bluetec.

GLK250 BlueTec- 2014
2.5L Min of Diseal engine

For me = MUST HAVE(s)

a) 2.5 l Min Diesel - like the EU version of Sprinter engine
b) 3.0 V6 - 2 stage turbo (or twin turbos) at least !
c) RID of old MBrace - push button 'emergency' crap!

rest of options seems pretty well sorted out by now.....or maybe get the new
APPLE CAR PACKAGE ( like they have in other mfg) RID of old MB - push button crap!

its sweet ! better than the fords 'iconnect' <sorry guys don't flame me>

Cheers

Hmmm....if they are putting that 3.0L V6 Bi-Turbo in the ML550 (making it an ML400) instead of the ML350, I doubt they are going to replace the current 3.5L NA in the GLK with it. If they do, it wouldn't be for the base model in any case. They will have to slot a smaller engine in the base model to bring the HP in line with the ML350.

This is pure speculation of course.....

It would be a step in the right direction to offer the turbo v-6 with a few tweaks in an AMG package for the GLK!

I'd even like to see a GLK45, the 4 cylinder turbo with 350~ HP would still be a riot in this vehicle.

Sure, VW/Audi stickers the SQ5 loaded at $65K! I know manufacturers are very cautious to market smaller vehicles with huge upgrades in options/engines etc., especially in the USA where we traditionally equate size = luxury = price. But, I think the market is ever so slowly moving towards selling smaller vehicles with upscale luxury/options/engines. Not everyone wants a big three-row CUV/SUV to get max. lux. when a smaller CUV fits your lifestyle.

If the Porsche Macan did not exist I'd tend to agree more and more people will be drawn to cars like the SQ5 or the GLK63/45 (if MB decides to make it). But given the similar price point and the sports oriented crowd these cars are targeted for the Macan will most likely be a more popular choice.

Next GLK at a minimum will be bigger. Will compare more to BMW X3 in size I'd guess.

I would if its an AMG, as long as it still looks good like the current GLK.

....many years ago when I was in NORMAL WORKFORCE ,,, and happen to be lucky enough to work for ...
https://www.daimler.com/dccom/0-5-10...0-0-0-0-0.html

....(SMART/KIT car project (pre-build stages - so was looong time ago)
I used to be able to pick ONE CAR off the DEV LOT and drive it for the weekend - I MEAN DRIVE IT (those were the instructions) So it was much fun! I know I was once of first ones to drive the BI-Turbo E63s on normal streets and was lucky enough to get the GLK with G(euro)DISEAL engine - not the best combination but seems a lot of 'special orders' come from the ARABIC countries for that.....
What I know is MB = does do a lot of 'customer research' and actually do 'listen' to customer feedback from various 3 specific parts of the world - AMERICA's , Sth Africa and Australia. Seems rest of work they don't really worry too much as most of customers there are order 'the top of range'- or special custom order stuff - which incurs Hugh Margins anyways.

Not sure what MB does now ...but yes it be SURE NICE to get a GLK55 or better Diseal like 4.0 (that MB have for their Trucks) or even the 2.5liter two stage turbos from their 'sprinter' Vans here the America's - that most people use as PIMPED UP rides now!

BTW, to answer my own question I would, too.

I've always been a sucker for cars with "the big engine"... "cheers:
