Service A

I just got a call from our dealer asking us to make a schedule for our first oil change (I assume that means Service A). He said our first service A should be after 10k miles or after 6 months, or whichever comes first. He said the starting price is about $60 with 20% off if I book ahead. I asked him what is the typical charge as $60 is just starting... he said he wasn't sure and will have a service manager get back to me.

Does anyone know that typical costs involved for getting Service A and if it really is necessary when I've only driven 4k miles so far?

He's fishing. There have been multipal posts here that quote prices in the multiple 100's. He's trying to suck you in at $60. He doesn't know what it will really cost? Horse manure, he just doesn't want to say.

So far as I know, the first service should be at 10k miles (15k km in Canada) or 12 months, whichever comes first. Service A is the first service and it will cost several hundreds of $$$.

You can't change the oil and filter yourself for $60.00. I would question the dealer manager. They should not be calling with such nonsense.

10k miles or 1 year, whatever is first.. I wonder how many people he suckers into coming in by quoting that price, then they get a $250 bill.

It sounds like your dealer has some shady practices. I'd get them to put it in writing the -20% ... for all work done on a full Service A. ... not just off the 60 bucks.

A service A for my GLK 250 is usually close to 400$ Not sure how much less it is for a 350.

Did the service manager ever "get back to you" ? Strange.

No, the service manager won't get back to me until end of May as I told him to call me back then.

I know I'll be told to read the manual, but what all is entailed in Service A?

If it's really $250 for an oil change I'll just have an independent shop do the work.

About 80% is check, check, check. Who knows if they really check anything. One list I saw has such important things like check horn, oil hood hinges, etc. Mostly baloney trying to make the list long enough to justify the outrageous charge. I had mine done at a local shop, all qualified service techs, and they did all the important things and it was about $125.

Service A is $125 with a local independent Mercedes shop. It is owned and operated by an MB master mechanic.
