Front differential
Had some whinnying grinding noise for 2 weeks. Hung up in a friends garage, suspect front diff is the source. Booked dealer on Tue.
Car is 5 yr old but only 66k km or 42k mi, no extended warranty.
Any one had similar issues? I saw a ML front diff problem with bearing failure. Nothing for GLK?

If you do a search you will find that this is not uncommon.
Good luck with it...

Keep us posted, but from what I read the solution is new tranny due to failed bearing in the transfer case. All cases I read about were under warranty, so the there is no incentive to save money. Hopefully they can switch out just the broken part.

Update
In the dealer now. Confirmed transfer case fault at bearing. Offered free rebuild tranny but need to pay for labor $1300. Any thoughts?

I think it is a fair deal too. Much better than have to replace with a new transmission which cost 5 times more.
I am too have a 2010 and a little concern.

66K kms....? Did they do the mandatory 60K tranny fluid & filter change? If they did, some 'debris' should have been stuck on the pan magnets.... and therefore been researched further then... my .02
good luck... better than a $7K bill !

Let me understand this right.... the dealer will pull tranny, rebuild it, and remount it = $1300. Not too bad, but what kind of warranty will they offer you on their work? 1 year or more, 30 days, taillight guarantee??? Another thought would be what kind of deal might they swing should you decide on a newer model. It won't cost them much on your vehicle as it might be used as a training, or 'slow time' job.

Definitely go for it... At least if you later sell, the remainder warranty will still be there. Tough bite, but could be a lot worse! I experienced similiar with a Murano SE, only to discover 33 pages (murano.org) with the same problem and, an awful lot more cash!. We had 4 Nissans at the time... none left, and never again... nickel & dime you to death. Some of the problems were safety (broken driver's seat frame, rock back & forth, not a big guy), many pages on that one, but a terrible dealer network with 0 responsibility! Your dealer is giving you some slack, take it.

Got the car, new tranny is quiet. Surprisingly MB Canada absorb the whole damage, didn't even charge me the labor that was agreed. Hats off to MB Canada they stand up for their customers above and beyond!

Great new! Glad it worked out this well.
My dealer wanted to charge my wife 800 to reseal leaking transfer case that wasn't leaking.
