Looking to buy 2013/2014 GLK

Hi,

I am new to the forum and needed some help with a GLK purchase. I am looking to buy a 2013 or 2014 GLK350. I found one at a local dealer but would like to get an opinion on how much to offer before I go in.

2014 GLK350 Black on Black, Premium 1 package, Multimedia Package, Appearance Package, Keyless go, Heated front seats, 20 inch wheels, previous loaner car with 10k miles. The MSRP isn't listed, but they have the vehicle listed for $42,950. I'm in Austin, Tx.

I'm looking to spend no more than $35,500 with TTL. Do you think this is possible for this GLK? What should I be able to get them to come down to?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Up until 9/02 there was 2 $1750 rebates on 2014's, but not sure on the options. For $42,950 I would like you could found a brand new one with zero miles on her. Plus I'm guessing yours is FWD.

This dealer IMO is way overpriced.

List price is always high. This is just the price used to start the negotiation.

Yes, a new 2014 with similar options can be had for a similar price, but even that will be listed higher.

Look at edmunds.com or kbb.com for pricing in your market. Plug in the car with options and milage and they will give you average prices paid which will give you a rough target of what to pay.

IMO, never go to a place like carmax where they refuse to negotiate at all. They advertise that you will have a great car buying experience and make you pay a premium for that experience.

$35.5k might be a bit unrealistic. Looks like they're discounting ~5k for it being a demo. Take off $3k to bring it to invoice price leaving you at $40k. While some markets can double the $1750 incentive, TX being a generally uncompetitive auto market doesn't seem to be one, so taking off another $2k leaves you at $38k. Doesn't hurt to start your offer at $35.5k, but my guess is you won't be able to push them below $37k at the least.

You're still saving ~$3k over the best nationwide price without having to drive out to a more competitive market, and getting the full 4yr/50k warranty. Best price I could see for a non-demo with those options would be ~$40k. It's too bad TX punishes leases, because you can get some ridiculous lease deals on demo cars since their residuals are based on new MSRP.

What do you mean TX punishes leases? I've never heard of this.

Thanks for all the answers, I thought maybe I was dreaming too low on a price.

When you say lowest they might go is $37k would that be with or without TTL?

TX charges you sales tax on the full purchase price, whereas most states only charge you sales tax on the monthly payment.

What do you mean by TTL? The $37k is assuming they're willing to dig into their holdback in order to move the car, and that they can apply the incentive to a demo car - I'm fairly confident of the latter, but much less so on the former.

TTL, meaning Tax, Title and License...all the fees they tack on in the Finance department when you're signing the paperwork.

I'm hoping they will sit on it for a few weeks and then they will be desperate to get rid of it.

Since those fees are state specific, and we're from all over, most of the time people only refer to the purchase price. You'll have to add on sales tax, doc fees, registration and anything else onto that.

It's probably impossible to get any GLK for $35.5k with everything added. For your demo you're probably looking at no less than $39.5k out the door. Even for an absolutely base model with the full $3500 incentive, you're still looking at no less than $36k with taxes+fees.

Dunno if you are looking at a GLK350 or a GLK350 4WD. Start at the 35.5 & expect to come up as others have suggested. Make them include the first "A" service in the price. Also be certain that this vehicle has all of the options you want or need as adding them if OEM is expensive!

What to pay

Having worked @ a High End dealer for more than 10 yrs. I would guess that the dealer has about 20 % less than the asking price in a preowned car. Recently bought a 2014 loaded CPO C350 COUPE w/6300 mi on it for about 23% off original MSRP. Dealer started by coming down over $5,000 to start with. More discount after that. Car was only 6 months old.

Make sure that you tell them "I am ready to buy now" to get the best price or walk if not a good enough deal.
