2015 GLK 350 4Matic Power steering malfunction

I just bought a GLK 350 4Matic in September, it has not been 30 days yet, and the odometer has not reached 700 miles. Now it is in the service center of my dealership.

On my way from another state back to my home, suddenly the power steering malfunction appeared on my odometer screen, and the power steering became extremely hard to turn around. The first warning lasted probably only 1 second. Short after that, the 2nd and 3rd time warning came and last longer and longer. I have to use up all my strength to barely turn it around, pulled over my new car on the roadside.

I called MB roadside assistance. It took them over an hour and half to locate me, found me towing agency. (The girl tried to sell me more mbrace package during the first call!!!!!!) 4 hours later, the towing driver finally found me.

I try to be calm to describe my last night experience. And I also need suggestions from you about my car: is it some software/hardware problem in 2015 vehicles? Any suggestion would be great! I do not quite trust my dealer/MB after what happened last night, it could cost my life on that highway.

I've got 5k miles on my 2015 GLK350 4Matic and no issues so far. I feel like the engine is a bit louder (like a pulley bearing failure), but steering has been flawless. Let them sort through it and then you can see if it is a life threatening flaw.

I've been on this forum since I got my GLK in 2010 and this is the first I've read about steering failure.

Hopefully your dealer will be able to sort it out to your satisfaction...

I had a 2012 ML350 that had the same issue at about 8,000 miles. Was at the dealership for 2 weeks for complete steering rack replacement. Asked the service advisor and it was $5,000 in work charged to the MB warranty. Makes you wonder how these cars will be kept on the road as they get older.

Not much activity about steering problems on this BB. My 2010 has over 60 k with no steering issues but I think there was a change from hydraulic to electric some where between yours and mine. This sounds like an elelctric problem and hopefully it is in the motor as an intermittent connector or a frayed wire or even a bad chip in the processor may be tough to find and fix. Give them 3 tries and then see about other alternatives. These cars don't seem to have the myriad of electronic problems found in other vehicles but even 100% inspection is only 90% confident.

Please after replacing the electric steering rack, does one need to have error messages cleared or a reprogramming?

I never had the error show up, but after a normal service, I was informed that a software update was done for the power steering.
