It's not so much "better" as it's just less moving parts, which is why I went for the 2WD (we don't get much snow or rain here in SoCal)...

In general, AWD implies variable traction between the front and rear wheels while 4WD is the more traditional type like on a Jeep CJ.

On the GLK AWD and 4WD are both used to describe the 4Matic but it is technically an AWD.

Why is that? New 4wd systems have 4hi as AWD. You have two transfer cases as well as the benefits of better gas mileage with 2wd built into it. The reason why we have AWD is because nobody really goes off-road. That's why 4matic in GLK, ML, and cars are all AWD. The G wagen has a different system and it is a real 4wd where you can lock the front, rear and center differentials.

i got 2WD as well, at first i was dissapointed but further research made me more comfortable with my purchase, 2WD will last a lot longer because of less moving parts, easier to fix and blah blah blah.

i travel a lot so i do come across snow sometimes so that might be a problem.. but oh wells i shouldnt be driving in the snow anyways !

Never heard of this one. Cabs in Portugal are old MBs. Once I had a cab that was early 90's 190E with over 1m miles. He still had the original motor.

I think you will be able to answer this question for with your high mile project. New engines are much more sophisticated with more power and more technologies.

The problem is that usually when one little thing stops working throwing CEL it might cost a more to fix than the car is worth. And it seems nobody takes new motors apart anymore, you either buy a new motor or a new car.

You're right, but in order to complete my high mileage project it has to be the same motor, so i'll rebuild this motor if i have to. i just got to new york from vegas, 3000 miles trip. that was so long, i did it without stopping, except for gas and to eat of course. first time doing that without stopping. i'm aiming to get to 100K mileage by august.

1 MILLION MILES seems so far away !!!

no i went with my friend, we took turn rotating every 2 hours so we dont have to stop. sleeping in the GLK is so much more comfortable than my honda pilot, holy **** last time i did that with my honda pilot was so painful, and we had to stop. we were rotating every 4 hours and making sure both of us isnt awake at the same time and the other one is getting some sort of cat nap. im going back to vegas by the end of the month.

i read online that cars shouldnt go for more than 10 hours without taking a break, but you cant even go that long without stopping for gas and letting it "idle" for 10 minutes. we had plenty of 10 minutes gas stop and 30 minutes food breaks.

it is way bigger, but something about the seats. the honda pilot messed up my back, sitting in it for more than 12 hours gives you a dreadful feeling or maybe that's in all cars. the GLK was a little bit better, but im pretty sure in any car besides the SPRINTER is probably uncomfortable for a 3000 miles trip. and it was just 2 people so i dont think it wouldve mattered. they get about the same gas mileage though.
ill make a couple trips in it more because maybe it was more biased off of my mood and who i went with.

The GLKS is indeed very small compar to the Honda and is not comfortable if you have more than 2 people. I'm in Vegas baby ! I already put almost 10,000 miles on the car and I had it for about a month.

In regards to the reset. In new GLKs, everything, which is not much, goes to default once the car is restarted. I.e. The tranny is in Comfort by default and goes back to Comfort every time car is restarted (from what I read). On 2010, the tranny is always in the mode that you select. I drive in S, so the tranny is always in S. Why does it matter? In Comfort the tranny starts in 2nd gear (to save fuel), in Sport it starts in 1st.

Btw, the tranny adapts to your driving, and you can control shift points by accelerator input. If you progressively push harder on the accelerator the shift points will raise. If you take it easy it upshifts very quickly. Also, if you double tap accelerator while driving, it will downshift (not always, tho). If you floor the accelerator and then let go, it will hold the RPMs for a few seconds before up shifting and going back to normal.
Our 2014 250 BLUETEC doesn't have the ato stop/start.
