Nothing against royal purple but there were a lot of engine failure in Evo engines using royal purple. It is a 2.0L turbo with 300 hp. Even my using mobil 1 synthetic, 3500 miles was too long that I changed to mobil 1 extended performance.

The royal purple tested was a heavier weight vs 0w weight of the competition. We know that wear does happen during start up in cold mornings. With variable valve timing, direct injection and Autostop you want oil to flow freely and immediately and not thick in cold engine start ups. What's the pour point of the oil at 0 degree centigrade or farenheight? I use blackstone labs to determine if there is enough TBN after an oil change to mean that the engine was protected throughout the oil's lifespan. I have been a supermod in the Evom since 2003 and all engine breakdowns of the 4G63 turbo was due to royal purple.

That's EVO though, I have read good responses from Benz owners that uses royal purple, guess what Mobil 1 and Mercedes have a deal with each other so Mercedes is required to promote their product.

Royal Purple is extremely overrated and over priced. There are plenty of other alternatives that perform as well or better.

Liqui Moly is what we've been using in our GLK.

The only company that has company tie up is my Range Rover Sport where the oil in question, castrol SLX professional is only available from the dealers. You can even buy it from any parts store. I have used mobil 1 on my Honda Pilot and it has 217k miles. My escalade hybrid had 195k miles.

I'm getting a 5 gallon pail (that's 20 quarts) of royal purple 5w40 for around 150$. It is extremely expensive in singles, more than mobil surprisingly.

i heard of Liqui Moly but wasn't too sure about it, i will research it right now.

Even the article points out that it's a very narrow test.

To me it proves very little. It's only shows one property of the oil. Oils that did well in this one test, might be completely unusable after after a few k miles in the engine and ruin the engine. Not saying that they are bad oils, just saying that I would not make my oil decision based only on this article.

I ran oil lab analysis after 40k and 4 oil changes at the dealer (I did 5th oil change myself). The only comment was slightly higher iron content due to 10k miles on the oil. I'm putting much fewer miles this year, so will be interesting to compare the result at 5k miles. Dealer use M1 5w40, I put in 0w40.

You have read good things about Royal Purple? Where? On their own web site or from reviews written by the the pyramid-scheme MLM distrubutors?

Stay away from Royal Purple. I have written essays on oils in the C63 thread and I am not going to repeat it here, but the bottom line is - stick with MB APPROVED products from reputable comanies that actually know a thing or two about engine lubrication.

Rainx wipers are junk...get MB Oem they are the best wipers.
Even their Bosch equivalent is not as good.

Stay away from additives/cleaners

I would go with OEM recommended oils for both tranny and engine.

Brake fluid doesn't really matter as long as it's DOT-4 and you flush it every couple of years.

EDIT:why would you top it off with a different fluid? Chances are it doesn't need to be toped off in first place. \

Keep in mind that MB comes with coolant additives that dissolves slowly (there is supposed to be a cartridge in the system) and hence 15 year service life. Not sure if you need or want to add more additives.

because it's: "Royal Purple 01326 Max EZ High Performance Synthetic Power Steering Fluid" - do the math. You're getting "Max," you're getting "EZ" and it's "High Performance" which should sharpen the steering, increase turn-in and probably reduce steering wheel vibration to a degree.

Okay, maybe I agree with you after all :-) - and if it needs to be "topped off" then there's a leak...
