Does the new GLC still embrace last century technology with rear wheel drive?

Is this a question or a statement?

Kind of hard to figure out if 420tee is being funny or an arschloch.

Usually a sentence that starts with "DOES" and ends with a question mark is a, are you ready for this?, a QUESTION.

Yes, it is a rear wheel based design 4 wheel drive system. Fortunately, even in 2wd applications, it does not exhibit new century torque steer.

Thank you for a straight forward answer without all the childish nonsense that simple yes/no questions seem to often generate on this forum.

But your question wasn't a simple one 420tee now was it? You worded it such that most (including me) thought it was asked in such a way that you were denigrating the fact that "rear wheel drive" was passe because it was "century old technology". So the smart *** answers were in fact illicited by you my friend.

Certainly the question asked could have been clearer. I did not see anything in my 2010 owners manual about "last century technology with rear wheel drive" with or without capitalization in the quoted text. Reason we bought ours was it was available with only RWD. Hope this helps.

So yes it is a shame that you asked a question with cryptic/poor wording & then moaned about the replies.

What a shame the degradation of the comprehension of the English language fostered by "modern" teaching methods and accelerated by twitters and tweets and textings. I'll take my "last century" education thank you. Plus I can make change without a computer cash register. Rear wheel drive is, if you Google it, last century technology. Pretty much extinct except for high powered go fast cars.

This is fun. Believe me 420tee. I bare no animosity toward you. I just thought that your question was not clearly worded and left it far to open to misinterpretation as to whether it was or wasn't asked in a pejorative manner.

However, If one does as you have asked & google "last century" one will find it is the period from Jan 1st 1900 to Dec 31st 1999. Also, If one were to google "Front wheel drive" & "rear wheel drive". You will find that both drive systems were very much developed at ruffly the same time, And not coincidentally in the century to which you referred to in your original post.

Thus. It can be easily assumed (incorrectly as you have clarified) by a person reading your non-contextual twitter length question that you might possibly have an animus to RWD.

If one were to have asked. Does the GLC still embrace the tried and true MB RWD system or have they switched to the more common FWD? Seems a clear and concise question much less open to faulty interpretation.

A gaggle of MB's
The previously posted "answer" might really not be what you guys were looking for:

"Yes, it is a rear wheel based design 4 wheel drive system. Fortunately, even in 2wd applications, it does not exhibit new century torque steer".

Let me rephrase the original question in this way: (1) will the new GLC be available in RWD only - (2) does the new GLC have a all-time-all-wheel-drive similar to the current GLK, or will the GLC have a "on-demand" AWD system similar to the GLA ?

Agreed the question was posed in a very screwball way if there was no intent to rile people up. RWD is far superior to FWD for a myriad of reasons as far as driving dynamics, but it seems the question was answered regardless.

Also, I have an FJ62 and love the old century technology as well

Good questions regarding the upcoming GLC as to whether it will be available in 2WD & 4WD modes of propulsion. I too enjoy last century technology & recently purchased a clean low mileage '97 Cherokee 2WD/4WD. Some where the XJ was voted one of the 20 best vehicles. Our intensions are to sell the GLK & keep the XJ for the indefinite future. Better to have appreciating assets than depreciating in the garage.

I'm with you Vento & Wabbit.
Just have a look at my "drives" info. A caterham super 7 is hardly a new tech encrusted ride. Heck the heater is an extra cost option, You can't order a new one with a radio. If you want music or the ability to speak to your passenger. You either stop or buy a peltor intercom system and wear headsets. Standard wheels are 13" and if a 7 driver wants bigger than 16" wheels. Well, one has clearly joined the pimp daddy poseurs that "think" 20" wheels will create better handling.

yes
RWD, FWD, 4WD, AWD have all been in existence for a hundred years. Any one of them car be referred to as last-century technology.

I'm pretty new to this forum, but I'm not new to forums in general and definitely not new to RWD automobiles new and old.

The OP's question immediately made me think he was a troll, and his follow-up posts reinforced my first impression. Especially comical is him thinking that
an ability to make change is a skill that is both rare and impressive.

Has anyone driven a GLC with the 4 cyl gas engine? How is its acceleration compared to the GLK gas?

Yup, troll since 2011 with nearly 300 posts, oh wise one with 3 posts. And, unfortunately with new math, etc., making change without a computer or pencil and paper is becoming a rare talent in the younger set. Stand in line at a fast food joint and see what happens if the mensa candidate behind the counter's register fails. In the same vane 'tis truly sad the number of people incapable of understanding a straight forward English sentence.

Maybe you're just a dick? What's with your attitude? Perhaps you don't come across as clearly as you think--your diction in the question had overtones of some loaded opinion that you were waiting to bait someone with. I don't see any responses that were uneducated or had anything to do with calculators or math. Your question was posed in an incendiary manner, and at least a handful of respondents on here think so. So, it's a YOU problem. Get over it and add to the discussion and stop throwing out fast food/mensa/whatever nonsense you are babbling about.

I drove a loaner GLA250 which has the 2 ltr Petrol 4. The engine seemed fine and had no issues accelerating briskly. However, It was the transmission that was horrible. When one got on the gas from a stop. The car would accelerate for a moment then there would be a VERY pronounced hesitation. I literally thought the car had stalled. After this hesitation the car accelerated just fine. Upon returning to the dealer I told them about this. They said it was indeed the transmission that was causing the hesitation. And were hoping very much for some sort of program update from MB.

I apologize for using words and phrases that were obviously beyond your ability to comprehend. If this discussion were to continue I would try to use simpler terms such as "See Spot, See Spot Run." However I have no desire to read more personal attacks and childish drivel, so have a nice day.
