Battery Removal Question

I'm planning on replacing the battery in my 2011 GLK before going on a trip. Looking under the hood there is a black plastic box mounted above the battery. To remove this box is there anything more than 3 Torx screws and a cable tie holding it in place?

TIA,
Bob

Just some clips holding the airbox on. It's up to you about replacing the battery but these are expensive sealed AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) or starved electrolyte batteries that are good for a very long time. 5 years is not unusual. MY '10 GLK350 has the original battery I tested last month and it passed with flying colors. Don't try and put a regular flooded cell in the car. The battery costs from $175 to $275 depending on where you buy it. Why do you think it needs replacing?

mjhawkins2346,

Thanks for the input. The battery is not holding a charge like it should when it sits unused for a week or two. NAPA has an AGM replacement battery for just under $180. I should have some free time next week to replace it.

You should clip a 12 volt supply to the leads before removing the battery to save all settings. Windows, roof, radio seats etc.

bop11,

Thanks. I picked up a "settings keeper" that plugs into the cigarette lighter that claims to do that.

You may need the key on for the settings keeper to work. I have a radar detector wired to the back of one of the 12V cigarette lighter plugs and it goes on and off with the key.

A gaggle of MB's
If you have Keyless Go, not uncommon for the discharge - which can be prevented by pulling the Keyless Button before leaving unused/undriven for 1 week or more..

I don't have the Keyless-go option, so I'm betting that it's just a 5 year old battery on the way out.

I replaced the battery today and everything went smoothly. The "settings keeper" did it's job and nothing was lost. Thanks to all for their input.
