What is this dash part for?

In the image below, what does the small round grate looking object do? It is directly below the ignition switch near the steering wheel. Is there a sensor in behind or something?

Thanks

Talking The answer

Have you ever smelled your keys? They have a rather unpleasant metallic smell. Since this car doesn't have KEYLESS-GO, you will (probably) have a key chain of other keys on your car key, and they will dangle below. That hole is connected to a inhaler that sucks the smell into the dashboard and then out the car. This helps make the New Car Smell(tm) last longer.

Sometimes Mercedes use of technology really blows me away.

(Hope you got a smile. I don't really know what that hole is for.)

That's the temp sensor, try putting a piece of tissue up to it and see if it is pulling air.......The mike is up high near the visor/mirror..

Thanks for the replies - guess it's an ideal place to place it as it is not high or low and out of direct airflow.
