interesting fact about the 2 liter diesel

I have been in the market for a different second car (having just sold my Caterham) Been looking at AWD/4X4 types. Found a nice older Ford F250 4X4 with the big 7.3 turbo diesel. What amazed me were the specs on that engine as compared to the little Mercedes unit

Ford 7.3 turbo MB 2.2
HP 190 204
torque 388 369

What year 7.3L? I know when I had a 2002 F250 with the Powerstroke it was right around 500 ft-lb or torque.

I believe it was the last year of the IDI non-power stroke 7.3 1993-1994. It was a nice low mile thing as well. But just to far away from us to really consider it.

Forget horse power, it's all low end torque

Agree 100%, Torque gets the work done, HP maintains that work. But try explaining that to the average American. Who believes that size is king. If one were to put the 2.2 MB twin turbo diesel engine in the same F250 Chassis as the 7.3. The tow rating wouldn't change. Most would believe the opposite simply because the pre-power stroke turbo diesel is bigger and therefore better. When in fact they are nearly equal (except in weight)
