Oil Change sucking out the dip stick tube didn't work

I've always sucked the oil out of the dip stick tube on my C63 and my wife's 2010 C300. I've gotten almost all of it out this way. Well, I went to change the oil on my wife's new 2015 GLK350 and I only got 4 to 5 quarts out of the dip stick tube. I ended up draining another 2 quarts or so from the drain plug. Has anyone else had an issue sucking it out of the top? I may have to go buy one of those adapters that plugs into the top of the dip stick, I've been using a small, pretty stiff hose that came with the evacuator and just snaking it down the dip stick tube.

I guess not many here change their own oil and the few that do must just drain it from the bottom. I will do it that way from now on for my wife's GLK350, but I'll continue to suck it out from the dip stick tube on my C63. With the oil filter being on the top, makes it a very easy job.

I did it twice and every time sucked out around 7 quarts...

Did you snake a tube down the dipstick tube or did you use the adapter that goes on top of the dipstick tube?

With MITYVAC 07201 I was using provided tubes without any adapter. Just put small tube in full way. I did ~ 10 pumps to create vacuum with warm oil.
Next month planning to to my 30K oil change again.

Darn, that's exactly what I do and it works fine on the C63, but for some reason it only got 4 to 5 quarts out on the GLK350. I may buy the adapter and try it that way. Thank you so much for the information.

The adapter is made right here in Phoenix so I called to pick one up and they told me that I couldn't pick one up but they'd mail it for $8! Not too happy about that seeing that they are only 10 minutes from where I live.

My wife gave me this one as a gift. Works great but it only holds 6 to 7 quarts so I have to pour it out in the middle of the oil change. A lot of people get the big Mityvac or the one from Harbor Freight.

You need an air compressor for this one...

More people buy this one...

The one I have is a nice compromise. Very nicely built, works great and is half the price.

Yes, mine is Mityvac 7201 Fluid Evacuator Plus, but the price was much lower.

If it's the same company I ordered from, which it probably is, they are kind of goofy that way. Be sure to check your credit card if you paid that way. They charged me more than they quoted when I bought mine.

I changed my oil in my GLK for the first time this morning, the dealer included the first change for free. I have a topsider similar to the harbor freight one and I couldn't get all the oil out either. I have had good luck on my other mercedes including a e320 and a R350. I assumed it was all out and put 5 qt of mobile 1 in and checked the level and it was way overfull. Crap, $30 of oil wasted! I pulled out the plug and drained 7 qts out and went and bought some more oil. I guess I need to get the dip tube adapter.

Also, don't get the harbor freight oil extractor unless you have a huge air compressor as it uses a tremendous amount of air and is extremely loud. I modified mine with a cheap vacuum pump and love it now.

I run into this at work from time to time on those engines in some 204 chassis cars. I believe it is an issue with the tube location in the oil pan as it doesn't happen on all V6 car but the couple times i've drained and then had an overfilled engine by 2-3 quarts, it's been on an GLK or C350. We've even run the evacuator a complete second time (we use air powered large extractors that hold about 15 gallons of oil so it's not very obvious if it's 2 quarts shy on extraction) and had the same issue. It has been with the hose down the dipstick method though, so not with the proper adaptor piece using the dipstick tube itself as a feeder. Possibly it's vented or blocked somehow at the end, haven't seen one removed myself yet.

Excellent information, thanks to everyone. I may just stick to pulling the drain plug on the GLK350.

If you have a 4 Matic, for one, there's a kink in the dip tube to accommodate the axle that goes through the pan. The adapter for the top of the dip tube works perfectly. If you try snaking a tube down dip tube it can't reach the bottom. The bottom of the pan has a depression to accommodate the dip tube so it really gets all the oil - better than pulling the plug which leaves the oil in the depression (maybe a few tablespoons) unable to drain.

Where to buy an oil adapter?

Seems like it’s a little hard to find an oil adapter for mercedes dipstick tube.

i need one that would fit onto a nylon tube like the mity vac not a 3/8 metal hose fitting.

is there a such thing? Can’t find anything online but maybe im searching for the wrong thing.

thanks!!
