New Windshield GLK

Honestly, aside from crucial internal parts (cam, transmission gears, etc...), where non-OEM parts probably don't even exist, I don't see why one would pay the extra $ for OEM parts.

2014 GLK350 & 2012 Acura TSX SE
Our new-to-us 2013 GLK 350 has some pretty bad pitting on the windshield. We just picked it up last week, having 34,000 miles on the odometer. I was considering buying Carpro Rayon glass pads and Ceriglass polish to attempt to remove the pitting (I own a Flex polisher). Never worked on glass before so I'm not sure if it's worth it. Granted it would only cost me $30 and likely a ton of elbow-grease.
Honestly I'd prefer to replace it, I just can't justify ~$400 for a new windshield. BTW I live in Connecticut.

I got a small ding in my windshield, so I got a quote from SafeLite for a new windshield for 2013 GLK.
Price for non OEM: Your price including labor and moldings if required is $294.95 + $14.10 (taxes) + $24.99 mobile fee + $9.95 (disposal fee) = $343.99
The quote for an OEM windshield: $558.95
Any advice on OEM vs non?

In our case it's only "pitting".

I live in Colorado and have 500 deductible with 5 different insurance companies over 20 years. Insurance that I've had will fix chips, but not replace the windshield for $50. Some levels of coverage, do cover windshield replacement, but it depends on your coverage and deductible.

If the ding can't be fixed then go non-OEM and save $200. Have the installer remove and replace the MB sticker on the new glass.

Depends on who made the glass. European glass has been known to be softer than US glass for many years. Most Euro cars have badly pitted glass after 4 or 5 years, but the insurance will not replace pitted glass, even though it is hell when driving into the sun. Look at a windshield on a 30 yer old US car, and the windshield looks pretty good comparatively. Of course this is for normal driving on on a beach or desert where all windows will pit.
