Instrument Polution Control Light ON
It was strange indeed when my Instrument Cluster dies for several days then after a battery power loss and recharge had it come on again, now showing the yellow PCL on. What causes this?

...and because its a Mercedes
...and because its a Mercedes it fixed itself. How you might ask!? It seems after a battery recharge the cabin had dried out some, and the instrument cluster came back on. I had left the sunroof open, and the rain came pourin' in. This moisture was likely the culprit for circuitry that was shorting out. Eventually the Pollution Control Light went off as well. Took the vehicle in to a friend who read the computer code and there were no outstanding codes. All systems go! I've been driving it for a couple of days and no more problems. My conclusion is that moisture caused this and once dried out eveything went back to normal. There's something to be said for being patient and not immediately driving to a dealership for a $100 plus/hour diagnostic.

Glad all is well. An electrical issue in the dash in a car bursting with electronics is no small matter. You certainly dodged a bullet on that one.
The bigger question is, Did you learn your lesson?

You may have dodge it for now but connectors that get wet corrode. How many miles on the vehicle? You may want to think about upgrading to a new or newer model. Especially look for ones that have not been in a flood area. A 2 year old MB just off of lease is normally a good buy and will not develop the problems of a car that has had enough moisture to drain the battery and throw codes and warning lights.
