GLS450 vs GLS550 Front bumper question
My wife and I are about to order a GLS450. We really love the vehicle, but would prefer the 550 front bumper. Does anyone know if they are a direct swap out... Or if the previous GL550 bumper would work/direct fit on the 2017 GLS450? Or is there a way to remove the chrome bumper part and just go with the mesh grill like on the 550? I looked and it appears that the mesh screen isn't continuous... If you removed the chrome, then you would have another issue and the side inlets appear to be larger on the 550 so that screen would not work either.....

The 550 has the AMG appearance package by default. This is an option you can get on other models as well. Just the front bumper wont be a direct fit because you would also need the fender extensions that come with the AMG appearance package. Please note the front bumper from the AMG appearance package is not the same as the real AMG63 front bumper.

I dont know why Mercedes wouldnt allow that in the US... However I am not sure, and for some reason I cannot access the configurator on the US website. Any american buyer can help? Maybe Fabbrisd??

GLS 450 /550 Bumper
The AMG option is not available here in the US as I imagine it would cannibalize sales of the 550. I cannot answer your question about swapping bumpers. If you want a sportier appearance consider changing wheels. If you keep tires a good set will run you about 2K. I put OZ Cortina(matte black) on my designo red and it looks amazing!!!

Gls 450 vs gls 550 front bumper question
You could also have the front grill and mesh cover wrapped with matte or gloss black to emulate night package(also only avail on 550 and gl63). I am sure an experienced installer could do this well.

GORGEOUS! 'm not one who likes red on SUVs, but DAMN....Your GLS looks SWEET! Nice choice of wheels! If mine weren't a lease I'd be putting the same wheels on.

Gls450 vs gls550 front bumper
thx baobay. My one actually is leased. Was able to swap the tires from the OEM 20 in wheels to the OZ's. There was a 1inch width increase(9.5) but the techs at tire rack said that was OK. Will just put the old wheels back when turning in. This is our third GL and will likely stay with them and maybe reuse the OZ's...or let em go on ebay for a song

Does anyone know how to remove this chrome lower bumper (or grill cover whatever they call it)
Our new GLS450 came from VA and had the front license plate holder installed... We are in SC and don't have to have one. When I removed it, I now have 2 holes in the chrome. I emailed our sales person because we were rushing to get the car picked up and I did not notice the license holder until we got home... And her response was not what I wanted to hear... She said just leave it an put a college plate or something on it.... I am going to go back on Saturday and suggest that they swap it with another GLS and then it will be their problem. But I was curious as to how hard or how much time it takes to remove it.

If the car is registered already, they will not swap it. It would be better if you can have them replace the chrome piece. I am sure it can be done easily by their body shop.

It is already registered, but iI seesee nono reason tthat they could not swap that piece with another unsold GLS on their lot... And I should not have to pay to have something replaced in the 1st week because the $80 something thousand dollar car wasn't how I wanted it when it was purchased

Does anyone know what is involved in removing that chrome piece? Can it be removed easily in a short amount of time, or does the whole bumper cover assembly have to be removed to take that piece off?

You can I know this is old. We leased a 2015 GL450 and put different wheels on. Kept the originals and put them back on when we turned it in (but we could have turned it in with the other wheels if we wanted too). Just leased a 2019 GLS550 exactly like the Cardinal Red one above and just bought new wheels for it. Our dealership said we could do whatever we wanted to it. Had the windows tinted as well and replacing the chrome badges with flat black. Had the chrome hood fins replaced and had the chrome door handle inserts removed. I'm in the US if that makes a difference.
