E55 vs. Evo X

This happened down in Mexico leaving cars and coffee two weeks ago I saw this EVO X at Cars and Coffee, big front mount, big turbo as his hood was raised, and a loud chattering clutch as he started his car and began pulling out. It was super clean and I would sport that beast anyday.
Anywho, into the altercation, I pulled out 5 minutes later and saw him in traffic waiting to get into the freeway. He got on and was two cars in front of me so I made light work of the minivan in front of me and paddle shifted from 4th down into 2nd at 3500rpms. That is the sweet spot for the twin screw on the e55. I pulled up next to him and then he darted right behind me on my rear bumper. I thought, that joker wants me to break the wind for him, loll. Evo's dont have great top ends from what I have experienced so I thought if I could hold him off till the top of third, it would not be pretty for him.
He actually honked it off behind me while sitting on my bumper so I nailed it in 2nd around 55mph and we were off. He sat on my rear going into 3rd but fell behind a car when my tranny shifted (sport mode was on and it shifts so fast you cannot even hear it). The middle of third we hit triple digits and as I hit 5500rpms or so he started to fall back a little, not much though. He shut it down around 130mph and I ended up about a 2 car pull. I was pretty pleased as my car only has intake scoops, k&N filters and some minor exhaust work down by my homey brandon at Mo's Speed.
Those evo's are little terrors I tell you. He caught back up and we gave each other the thumbs up.

I raced a Evo VIII last night, weather was around 68F, from 20MPH to 90MPH I won by 4 to 5 cars distance.

LANCER EVOLUTIONs are no joke. it's tough to compare them to AMGs, however, since they're only 4 cylinders.

An evo is no joke however. It may be a I4 turbo but they are light and close geared. Great kill!

If I HAD to own a Japanese performance car, the EVO would be it. Done right, those things look bad-*** and they run well too.

I have always had a thing for subies. A modified hawkeye STI anyday. Just both cars seem to be unreliable and they only sprint up to about 80mph and than its all down hill for the small displacement and short gearing.

i think it all depends how they're tuned. from the factory, they are no match for the AMGs. however, there are a few sub-10-second LANCER EVOLUTIONs out there, namely from AMS.

Theres a guy a couple of streets away from me with a WRX STI with the license plate "DNTBTHR" . I want to say to him, I know your car is fast, but 'cmon. Really? With a plate like that I hope he's got a sh*t ton of mods because he's asking for abuse.

Subaru's aren't bad either, I prefer the EVO. But BOTH are worlds better than than modded Hondas and Scions and Toyotas and anything else that was meant to be a bare basic form of transportation thats been modded to the breaking point. I've seen plenty at the drag strip that can run some good ETs, but usually only last a few passes before something breaks.

I have never seen any modded street car built for racing that has not blown an engine or broken the drivetrain. Its just a fact in racing regardless of the type of car. If the car is kept stock it obviously won't break as easily. Car is built with XXX+ hp and you double or triple the hp ,somethings gonna go!

Yes its true that all cars are not designed to handle mods that double and triple stock HP.

But its just not very common to see a V8 with 500 HP modded to triple its factory HP. You don't see very many street legal 1500 HP V8s at the strip.

However a there are many Civics at the strip that are easily doubling and probably nearly tripling their 140 HP factory ratings.

1500hp V8's would not be street legal I sure don't know of any I can tell you that! An engine with a displ of 4 to 6000cc will make 500hp easier and much more reliably than a 2000cc engine. There's no secrets there. But it would be just as vunerable to failure if you triple a v8's given hp especially if it started out at 500bhp.

Well Civics are more expensive to build especially when turbocharged and they love to blow up! 4G63 motors are built for turbocharging and reliably reach 400whp with proper supporting mods and tuning.
