4ETS & ESP lights

4ETS & ESP lights
I had 2 incidents where the 4ETS & ESP lights came on without any unusual incidents. Once it happen while I was Backing up to park and the second time it happened while I was in traffic. Both times I turned off the engine and back on and lights are gone. I checked with my service Supervisor, he requested to bring the car in so they can put it on the scanner.
Before doing so, I would like to take your opinion in this matter. Has anyone has the same situation? or would anyone know the cause?
Appreciate any type of information.

I have a 2000 ML320 and I had those two lights come up too once I was in San Francisco at night, and I was in a hurry. I was crossing the street and suddenly the traffic stoped while I accellerated and had to brake super HARD,. The lights came on later after 30 mins, and the next day the lights are gone and that was during last christmas, I still have the brakes and it works fine. It could be some of sort of brake fluid sensor or something... I"m guessing here though.

I had this problem intermitently for about 3 months without troubles. The lights would come on, but nothing occurred. The one day, the steering became difficult, the brakes were barely operatble (pushing the pedal to the floor with little response) and the car shaking like a mad man. The car ended up being towed to the dealer 3 times in the same week of this problem. The third time, one of the service guys took the car home to ensure it was fixed - it wasn't and it had to be towed back (he didn't even make it home).
No service codes were appearing so they were very confused about this. In this region, no other incidents had ocurred, so our M became a guinea pig for solving this problem. I don't recall exactly what was done, but I believe they ended up replacing the main processor/module. I can look it up late if you'd really like to know. Just be careful. There is definitely a problem if this is continuing to occur. It's a pretty freaky experience to be doing 75 down the freeway and have the car just about shake you off the road. Yikes!

I have had the same problem before and so have many others here, and the solution was replacing the brake switch. ML God is a MB specialist so I would consider his advice too. Driving around with a defective barake switch is not a good idea because it affects other safety critical function/system in the truck. Just my opinion.

Before you start changing brake switches, read this first:
On both my E and my MY02 ML320, this problem happened. In both cases it was the brake switch. On my 05 ML500, the problem happened just a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was the brake switch also when i took the truck in. It turned out (based on the codess from the computer) that it was the control unit!!!!! So I have the control unit on order.
As a side order, just b4 I took the truck in, the three flashes stopped coming on when I locked the truck using the keyfob. The single flash would come on when I clicked to open. I tried both keys, same results. The code showed a faulty trip computer, so I have that on order too.
BTW, my oroginal problem had to do with TeleAid - every time I turn on the truck, I get a message on the screen telling me to visit the shop due to a TeleAid problem. I can still reach the help system via the SOS button, they upgraded via satellite, they replaced the GPS antenna, and the problem is still there. Any clues? Could the MCS be messing up, afterall, I cna get through to the Help Center via the SOS switch!!!
