1999 ML320 O2 Sensor
I have my check engine light on (1999 ML320) and I did the emission test the same day that found the O2 sensor (bank1 sensor2) failed. Where is this located? With an average technical knowledge, can I replace this myself? The dealer said it would cost around $500 including a diagnostic check, and I think that is a rip off.
Also, if I replace this myself, how do I reset the check engine light? I don't want to disconnect the battery because I don't think I have the radio code.
Thanks in advance!

i have no idea by bank 1 sensor 2....is it the left or right side? before or after the cat. if it is the rear o2 those are very simple to replace with a 7/8 wrench. the fronts are a little more difficult to get to but do able

Source for 02 sensor
For future reference:
Not sure location of which sensor is your problematic one, but here's a possible source for your replacement.

By the way, the fault codes are P0136 and P0141 - does this say what side O2 sensor and before/after cat?
What is a reasonably priced scan tool that will work with 1999 ML320?
Thanks a lot again,

Bank 1 sensor 2 is a fault with the O2 sensor after the CAT, on the passengers side. I don't think that affects the performance of the vehicle at all. If it's the O2 sensor that failed you don't need to change it it you don't want to. As I understand it the sensor behind the Cat just confirms that the CAT is working properly, it's an emissions thing.
I had code P0156 which is Bank 2 sensor 2, i.e., the O2 sensor after the CAT on the drivers side. I had the code cleared a couple of times and it's not come back since.

ML320 2001 bank 2 sensor 1
I need help with instructions of how to replace the upstream oxygen sensor, bank 2 sensor 1, for my ML320. Do I need to remove any engine cover under the car? Can you please tell me how to reach it? Thank you so much.

Bank 2 is the driver's side and you would have to remove the tire and the wheel well liner to gain access.
You will also need the proper wrench. Do not use and open end wrench.
Install the sensor and the CEL should go out. Drive the truck and see if the code returns.
