timing chain replacement

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows what the recommended interval is for changing the timing chain for an ML320. Also, does it make sense to do the waterpump/timing chain at the same time on this motor? I know with some other cars, once one is being done, it would be very very easy and cheap to have the other done. Thanks for your help.

There is no recommended interval for changing a timing chain. These motors have been out since modle year 98 and I have yet to see one break. It isnt like the Japanease vehicles that have a timing belt

Most likely due when the engine is overhauled or rebuilt.

There is no timing belt, it is a chain and believe me you do not want to do it.

Here are the instructions. Special holding tools are required.

Whenever they say "crank the engine" they are not referring to cranking the engine by using the key. They mean so by turning the crankshaft bolt manually.

If this is not done properly and you go to start your engine, all the valves and cam gears will be destroyed.

You don't say why you want to change the timing chain but you must know what you are doing with this, because your engine is at risk.

I can't wish you luck because I don't think you have the know-how to do it, very few do.

The person that is doing this is a very skilled mechanic and i am sure he can get it done he informed me today that all he wanted was a diagram so that he can see the indicators .
