i have a ml500 2002 with 60000 miles and have been told my brake master cylinder is bad. Does this sound correct at this millage? Is this a common problem with the ml's?

Master Brake-Cylinder

Did you (or someone) replace the brake fluid? What was used? DOT 4?

Years ago I went through several Master Brake Cylinders on Audi and Volvos. Until I discovered, the (same) mechanic.... was using the wrong fluid, which at the time differed from US type (DOT 4); eating up the seals!! Did you buy the car used? Just a thought.

Is this a known issue, no. Is it possible to fail, certainly. Some causes are wrong fluid used by previous owner and/or perhaps no calender time fluid changes performed. This is a serious safety issue, get it fixed before driving the vehicle any more.
