i am having the check engine light come on i took it to auto zone and they read out these codes its for a ml350 2004 i am also having problems with the bas/esp light come on when i turn on my ml and shift to reverse it jerks and then when driving it wont leave first gear so when i took it back hom to put in park it wouldnt let me i had to put in neutral turn off the ml and then it allowed me to put in park now i know i have been reading on here that one problem sounds like the brake light switch but just curious about the other issues if anyone could please before i take it to the specialist and get ripped a new one just so i can know a little of what im dealing with please thanks

Don't expect a reply from the OP, who posted this almost 3 years ago.

If your ML jerks itself out of neutral then won't shift gears, then it's in "limp home" mode. It's actually starting the gearbox in 2nd, and not shifting to prevent damage to your transmission, usually after detecting an electrical fault that could affect the gearbox electronics. There are several causes.

If you can describe your own problem in some detail, that will help.

This are the symptoms
intermintent bas esp light on.
Car stuck on 2nd gear limp mode
after turning car on, shifter will go to reverse, neutral, drive. wont go back to park, will get stuck on neutral and have o turn off car then it will go to park.
had this codes P0720 P1999 034 130 134 135 137 150 codes were cleared tranny still in limp mode, bas esp light on
will replace brake switch today, hopefully not the transmission speed control or esp unit.
any ideas?

Did you spill any liquid onto the shifter because of the cup holder, or did you ever leave your sunroof open while it rained?

I probably did.
I replace stop switch, TCS, reseted computer, cleared codes, started with no problems and shifted.
Stopped the vehicle, turned on..went in limp mode again. Am replacing shifter today, hopefully that will be the end of it. keep you posted

That's and expensive shifter. Why don't you take it apart first and clean it up.

Your codes are listed from page 12/9 of this document. The multiple codes suggest that there's a problem with CAN communication - probably a damaged or corroded wire causing intermittent open circuit or short circuit.

Your shifter is a good place to start looking for your fault. Did replacing it solve the problem?

Small chance you'll answer, but I'm having the same codes and limp problem. Did switching the shifter fix it?
